Crispo....Again?! Other moderate places for 5?

gracefoster May 18, 2012 11:46 AM

When my family comes to the city, I always take them to Crispo for dinner but am hoping for another option this time. We're 5 adults, one vegetarian (fish ok), all foodies. Crispo is lovely but was hoping for a change; under $350 w/out alcohol, anywhere from the Village to the 30's, east or west. Thanks!

Great choices, Peter, but alas, nothing on Open Table for any for 5/26 at 6 or 7p. Po or L'Artusi would have been perfect - I'm going to call to see if there's a wait list but in the meantime...any others? I definitely want to make a reservation.. Thanks again for giving this a think!

        Did you call Perla?

Also try Dell'anima - I've never been there but they are affiliated with L'Artusi which I love.

Morandi might also be a good option. I also haven't been there yet but the owner is Keith McNally (Balthazar, Minetta Tavern, etc.)

I also like Osteria Morini in Soho though it's a bit noisier than Crispo.

How about Scarpetta? It's excellent and I think it will fit your food budget.

Long shot - Babbo tweets same day cancellations at around 3:00 pm every day so keep that in mind as well. They just tweeted cancellations for parties of 4-6 for this evening.

Great to know about Babbo on Twitter for the future. I like Scarpetta a lot but still having trouble with reservations - who knew Memorial Day Weekend would be a challenge? Anyone know about The Place on West 4th? A friend just suggested it and it looks cute.

Calling restauranst may be the better way of reserving for 5.

Just want to thank everyone for the suggestions. Surprisingly, the gang decided they would love to have dinner at our place, with steamed lobsters from Chelsea Market! We'll keep these ideas on hand for the next time. Thanks again!
