General question - Kansas City, MO

Monch May 18, 2012 06:38 AM

My wife and I are contemplating a brief visit, over Memorial Day weekend, to Kansas City.

Saturday and Monday will be travel days. We are driving from Madison, Wisconsin.

Will we have any problems finding open restaurants on Sunday?

We did not ask ourselves this question, on a recent trip to Memphis, and were caught unawares over the number of establishments that did not serve on Sunday.

Any thoughts, insights or recommendations (accommodations and/or dining options) will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, in advance.

I don't know if there's a real pattern. I just checked Sundays at a few of my favorite Kansas City places: some are open regular hours, others just for brunch, others are closed. Be sure to check ahead!
Open regular hours: Granauer in the Crossroads District (Austrian); Fou Frog (fun French in the River Market)
Open for brunch: Bluestem, in Westport, "new American"; Room 39 (open only in their Leawood location, not in Westport
Closed: Aixois (French bistro), Michael Smith (new American), Oklahoma Joes (famous bbq)
    Closed

I had brunch at Bluestem a few weeks ago. It was excellent - and extremely reasonable. Bluestem is a favorite place for a lot of KC area foodies, but also is known for being $$$$ at dinnertime.

Do you know where you will be staying? KC is pretty spread out - so location helps. If you can stay in a hotel on the Plaza, that would put you near a lot of good restaurants.

I"m sorry to have wasted the board's time.

The brakes have been put on this trip.

I'll remember to check, here, when it's rescheduled.

let us know when you reschedule. We divide our time between Madison and KCMO and can give you recs for things we crave while in Madison.
