Pastis review - Fun dinner in a fantastic neighbourhood!

Yes this place is crowded, yes it’s noisy, yes the tables are packed fairly close together but you know what? It’s NYC and it has to be expected. Besides you do not come here if you are expecting a quiet dinner – this is a place to see and be seen!

I enjoyed it immensely. Our waiter was fantastic – charming, efficient and took the time to help us chose a wine and chat with us even though he was clearly very busy. The menu is your standard French fare – tartar, moules, croques monsieur / madame, etc. While the food is good – I did have a very good beef tartar – it’s not the best French food I ever had. Again it’s pretty standard bistro fare. But this place is a lot of fun and if definitely worth a visit – I would go back!

It's standard bistro fare, but it's very well executed, and they also make excellent cocktails.

Yes it is indeed very well executed no question. Will try some of their cocktails next time!

I eat at the bar quite often and usually get the Steak tartare and some oysters. Their french fries are good too. I think their most popular dish is the steak sandwich. I had the fish and chips there and it was not good. Fried calamari is nice a crisp and a good choice too. I hear through the grapevine that Pastis has lease issues and will not be open that much longer. Maybe a year, but thats just what I heard not sure what will happen.

That would be a real shame.

it's not *that* much of a shame...i'm sure the Sex and the City tour bus can find another place to spend tourist money... ;)

I get the joke, but I don't care about that stuff.
