One meal only in Montreal (downtown or west island), ideas?

My friends are here only for Friday night dinner (flying in at 4pm, flying out at 5am). Advice? We don't go downtown (we're from way down on the south shore) and clueless. They want something casual, fun Quebecois. I'm sure they'll hit some night clubs later on by themselves but for now, looking for dinner ideas.

Something in the $15-40 range, what little of Quebec cuisine they can see in one meal.

They are from Vancouver, so no seafood places thanks, haha.

(I originally tried near the airport but you all have advised this is pretty impossible).

I'm really glad to see that you've expanded your region. Much of your request will come down to your definition of quebecois cuisine. The obvious choice is Au pied de cochon, though if by Friday you mean tomorrow then this will be booked up. If you don't go crazy when ordering this would come in at around 40 per person before booze.

For something a bit less busy I'd say one of the BYO restos like Smoking Vallee, Monsieur B, Quartier Generale or L'Entrepont , but really there are few places serving what I'd call true quebecois food in that price range to which I'd bring an out of town guest. These are a bit more french and maybe a tad too expensive.

Also, don't necessarily rule out seafood. For the most part it is surely better in BC, but there are now plenty of places here that do a great job of sourcing east coast products one might not find in Vancouver. It's also getting into the prime season in the next week or two, though likely this wouldn't be cheap. I'm coming across as being pretty pessimistic but I'm really struggling.. Anyone else???
