Which one was this? I'm going to guess this was store specific and not chain wide.

I bought it from Dufferin/Dupont. The cashier mentioned it'll feature on the Friday flyer. It might be store wide then. They are smaller than those from Kinoor.

Thank you for the heads up! The exact same sale is being done at Fresh Co which is the sister brand to Price chopper.

Just came back from the PriceChopper at Warden and Finch. Didn't see any Alphonso Mangoes, but did pick up a box of Kesar Mangoes for the same price. I've been dying to try the Alphonsoes for a long time and I had no idea what the difference between the two are, but figured I went all the way there, might as well try them.

I just tried two and they are very good! They are pretty sweet but what I enjoyed most was how fragrant they are. I'm not sure if any of you have tried them both, if so what can I expect from Alphonsoes that I didn't experience with Kesars!?

I might have to make a trip to Little India for Alphonsoes!!

Kesar mango is better than alphonso. You didn't miss anything.

I picked up the alphonsoes from the same Price chopper (Warden and Finch)on last thursday, they had limited boxes even then...went yesterday to pick up another box,but as ragged25 mentioned they were sold out...but I did not see the Kesar mangoes...and I did scan the entire fruit section....
IMHO,Alphonsoes are way better than Kesar...I'm surprised that they are priced the same.....

They were off to the side on a cart, with no signs or price on them! I had to ask the produce clerk for price confirmation. There were 3 boxes left at around 6pm last night.

If the Alphonsoes are as good or better than Kesars, then I will need to track them down this week!

The Kesars are fairly small about the size of a closed fist. They are fairly ripe but one more day should do the trick, I ate 4 already, saving 2 for today and tomorrow!

I went to Warden/Finch today. Although the box is printed 'Kesar mango', there's a sticker on the side that's written 'alphonso'. You probably bought alphonso.

Upon a second look, my box doesn't say Kesar...the other 3 boxes did say Kesars. My box simply says Indian Mango, on the side, there was no sticker saying which it was.

Whatever it was, it was worth the money and quite good!

They are similar, but Alphonsos are a little bit more resinous in flavour than Kesars; I find the Kesars have more floral scent, and I'm coming around to liking them a little bit better these days.

Note: although sunny market (leslie/finch) has Kesar mangos at $2.99/lb unboxed, they are not very good at all. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were some other cultivar entirely, based on the last batch I got their.

Are you sure its Alphonso and not "Ataulfo"....highly doubt it because of the price you mentioned....
