Suggestions for a celebration dinner?
This summer I will be celebrating both my 30th birthday and my graduation from a psychology program. It's time to celebrate!
I will be going out to a dinner with my family (5 of us) and I am hoping to find something that will feel special, memorable and will be a good excuse to dust off my stilettos.
I am looking for something relatively dressy, as much as I adore Chinatown and East Boston deliciousness I am hoping to find a nice mix of atmosphere and great food.
In the recent past I have celebrated various anniversaries and birthdays at Clio, Craigie, Mistral, Mamma Maria, Petit Robert and Island Creek. I need a place that takes reservations. There is no food type I would not consider. I love tasting menus, however I have found L'Espalier too precious and Menton seems over the top.
I am considering Bondir, Journeyman and No. 9.
What have you found to be truly special?

When you say atmosphere and stilettos, I don't think of most places in Somerville or Cambridge, but it's a free country so I say wear whatever you like. But it just might not be what you are looking for. Exception to Craigie.
And while I have not personally been to Menton, based on the numerous reviews here, it actually strikes me as restrained, rather than over the top. Nothing about the stern Ms. Lynch strikes me as over the top.
But when I think stilettos, I think a little glitz - so I think this calls for a rez at Scampo or Market.

Upstairs on the Square, Mooo, KO Prime (or other steakhouses), maybe Rialto and Deux Ave as mentioned (altho those two don't knock my socks off). Hamersley's? If you're thinking of No. 9 Park, Menton isn't much more expensive and wasn't overly stiff. As we've discovered, you can always dress up but the places that really cry out for it are few and far between.
