Del Taco Coming To SM Blvd. WLA

A sign at the Del Taco on Venice Blvd. says they are hiring for a new location on Santa Monica Blvd., with an address between 10000 and 11000. Does anyone know exactly where? (cross street or what it is replacing) I know it is a chain, but four regular crispy tacos, each with two packets of their hottest sauce, is about the best quick lunch or snack I know for $2.

  1. The Del Taco website lists a coming location at 11066 Santa Monica Blvd. I think that's the strip mall at Sepulveda and Santa Monica (southeast corner).

Wow, I wonder if it will be replacing the former Koo Koo Roo.

A non drive through Del Taco? Is that even legal? ;-D>

Yea. It's the old Koo Roo Roo space that feels like its been shuttered for more than a couple years.

I don't think it will taste the same (whether that's a plus or a minus is open to debate) as it does being consumed while driving in one's car.

I think many will still be consuming their booty while driving - the big difference is the lack of immediacy - as in immediately beginning to eat while driving OFF in one's car. Steering with the knees while thrusting fast food down one's gullet is one of many learned skills of commuters. I am so glad work is five minutes from home.

      2. I had no idea WLA was so deprived :-). Large empty space on west of the 405.

Take it from the Emergency Food Gourmand, go for the Classic Taco special on Tuesday - three for $2.

There is one location in Culver City at Jefferson and Sepulveda, and one on Lincoln at Washington in Marina Del Rey. I doubt these meet the perception of Westside for most people. There is definitely room for the chain to grow.

I once saw a passing rabbi attempt to break up a cat fight between a cross-dresser and another man just outside the Del Taco that used to be on Highland. Cheap fast food brings out the best in humanity.

Since I view the tacos primarily as a vehicle for consuming the surprisingly good and spicy El Scorcho hot sauce, I'll stick with the regular tacos. They are 3 for $1.09 on Tuesdays, according to the web site.

That strip center, with the Winchell's on the east and Yoshinoya on the west, with pizza, a Quizno's and some others between and the very solid Hole in the Wall Burger alongside, has definite parking issues, even with one anchor closed. With a high-volume Del Taco, something's gotta give.

Agreed - the 2 that I frequent for my El Scorcho fix always have a line at the drive-through. How can this location deal with that kind of traffic if everyone has to park?
