Best sushi in Western Mass?

I know this has been discussed before, but I'd like some recent opinions.

There are so many sushi options in Northampton but I just haven't been that impressed with any of them. We've been to Osaka most often but have also tried all the others at least once. Are any places worth another shot? Sushi is so pricy and I hate feeling like I wasted my money, plus a trip to Brooklyn a few months ago reminded me of just how good sushi can be.

I read a few good reviews of KS Restaurant in Westfield. Has anyone been there?

  1. I have to say, I think Osaka is superb. I travel a lot for work, and I think it's as good as what I've seen in most cities (US only--can't compare to Japan, admittedly). Make sure to check out the specialty roll menu if you like that sort of thing. I'd say that Zen is in second place, though they're awfully expensive, and I sometimes fear I've been taken in by the overabundance of "crunchy" (read: fried stuff) they put on everything. I've found that otherwise, over the years different places do better. I'm guessing that it's correlated with sushi chef turnover.

Just my $0.02. I remember back in the early 90's when Taipei & Tokyo opened and Northampton had its first sushi bar--no more trekking over to AmChi. How far we've come!

Wow, I don't like the sushi at zen at all having retried it recently.
I think moshi moshi is better and Osaka is ok.
We usually go to Bizen and ask the chef for his choice.

    2. Moshi Moshi is by far the best. Try their Honeymoon special - Oyster, Sea urchin, roe, and quail egg w/ Ponzo - to die for.
