Chowhound's YouTube Channel

Melanie Wong May 15, 2012 11:23 AM

Maybe it's been mentioned before, but new to me is the Chowhound's Latest channel on YouTube. It currently has 278 videos. The feed seems to pick up any youtube links posted to the site and displays the post with a link to the thread as well.

CHOW, is that how you wish your YouTube channel to appear and generate CHOW video/topics? Kind of odd to be aligned with a mashup of non-related videos...

While this link is a far better representation of what you intend. Melanie, did you see this link?

Yes, Chow.com set up its own channel long ago for Chow-created videos (although the powers that be would prefer you to view them on the site rather than on youtube) and I was familiar with it already.

I don't consider the Chowhound channel to "belong" to Chow.com. It looks like a youtube bot that picks up youtube links that are posted to the boards and feeds them to the channel. It's a collection of what Chowhound posters have decided to share through their posts on the message board. Some of the videos are user-created and others are not.

Funny, the link I provided has a 1 day old video posted right at the top. Current content. The content is def. posted by CHOW staff and the link you provided is some mishmash that I would find annoying to rifle through just to watch a CHOW video. And I too have been watching all CHOW videos for quite some time on YouTube and other sites the staff has registered with.

So, I'm sure that the CHOW channel belongs to membership collective via CHOW.com but I have never bothered viewing CHOW videos that way until you posted it today.

Somehow we're not understanding each other.

Chow.com keeps the Chow channel up to date with Chow-created video. Yes, it is current, I never said it was not. And I have no idea why you would say that "the CHOW channel belongs to membership collective via CHOW.com". As far as I can tell, it is limited to content generated by Chow editorial, not its registered users.

The "Chowhound's Latest" channel is auto-generated as I described above whenever somebody links to youtube in a post on the Chowhound message boards. It is not Chow-created video but miscellaneous video that the 'hounds who post on this board chose to share on the boards in the context of the links that are provided there as well. It's not the place to go if you want to see only Chow.com produced video. In fact, there seems to be little Chow.com video shared by 'hounds.

We aren't understanding each other, true. The collective I was referring to amounts to the same thing you are describing only I said it a different way. And my reference to the current post was (again) my way of explaining that I understand the content placed there to be AS current as yesterday. I had no intention of challenging what you think or understand. And that aspect (challenging your understanding) appears to have taken over our exchange so I'll stop here.

CHOW's Youtube Channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/CHOW
It includes videos that are created by CHOW, which can also be found on the main site.

The Chowhound Youtube Channel that Melanie links to is generated by Youtube, and automatically pulls any Youtube links that are posted on Chowhound by users.

Thanks for being the Ref. That's exactly the link I used and the comment I was trying to make, Dave MP.
