Fresh Conch in the Miami Area?

Does anyone know where to get Fresh Conch in the Miami Area?

  1. Fresh conch - Do you mean served in a restaurant, or at a fish market? And by fresh, do you mean "never frozen" or just "prepared really well"?

Regardless, AFAIK virtually all conch (Strombus gigas) is sourced via 5lb frozen bricks from the islands, including the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

I seem to recall hearing about a conch farming startup operation in the Keys some years back, but I've never heard about it since. These may be academic operations rather than businesses.

It appears there is a commercial conch farming operation in Turks and Caicos.

I've had fresh conch here but only from private parties who brought it back via boat from Nassau. It was very very good - but I can't say for certain if that was because it was never frozen, or if it just happened to be some very good conch.

Pretty sure the US has banned commercial conch fishing so whatever you get comes from the Caribbean (and not, as far as I know anyway, fresh as opposed to frozen).

    2. It's not a bad thing to freeze it, anyway -- it doesn't hurt it any, and it actually helps to relax the muscle tissues, so you don't have to pound the beejeezus out of it to make it edible.

I have purchased conch at Golden Rule in Cutler Ridge and Captain's Tavern seafood market and both were very good.....

      2. Islamorada Fish Company in Dania Beach has conch sashimi on their menu:

        1. I have purchased conch at the Delaware Chicken Farm (441 south of Stirling in Hollywood) and I thought it was very good. Don't know if it was previously frozen...
