Aloreña olive with DOP
Where can I find the Aloreña olive with the denomination of origin?
It's apparently a superfood because it's the one olive that is treated in a completely natural way, so it keeps all of its natural health benefits. I know it comes from a small town in the south of Spain and I tried it when I was in Malaga, but I'm having trouble finding it in New York and I'm surprised because I can usually find everything here.
If anybody knows where this olive is hiding in Manhattan, please share.

I see only 13 DOPs listed for the region of Andalucia and this is not one of them. It seems to be an olive used mostly for eating, rather than for oil.
I'd be curious as to where you got that information and whether that would be the case with other oils as well..you can certainly find organic oils from the region, for example.
Did you call Despana to see if they might stock oil from that olive?

No, it's not an olive oil. It's the only "olive for eating" in Spain with the denomination of origin. It's the DOP "Aloreña of Malaga", I just found something on the web. It's apparently a super healthy table olive because of its natural curing process. I tried it in Spain and it is the cream of the crop, so to speak. I can't find it here though.

Oh for goodness sake! I just assumed that you were asking about the oil. I guess because I am such a fan of Spanish oils! So sorry! I will ask at Despana next time I pass there (lower Manhattan), or else you might want to try phoning them. I'll be in Malaga in the fall and will certainly look for it there as well!
BTW: Do you have any great restaurant recommendations for Malaga?

El Tintero is a great experience, the food isn't amazing, but I'm sure you'll appreciate the vibe. It's right on the beach on a seawall. If you go to Rhonda, which is a little inland, there's one of my favourite restaurants in Spain in the old area of the town, but unfortunately I don't remember the name. All I can remember is that we sat in the middle of a cobble stone street in this beautiful square and ate the best duck pate fathomable underneath the branches of a large tree. I hope that paints a good enough picture for you to find that little gem. Enjoy Spain!!
