anyone know about the London Cafe at Royalton Suites?

There's a Groupon for tea at the London Cafe on Newbury St., but I can't find anything on the internet about it other than one Yelp review from yesterday... anyone know anything about it? Worth taking a chance? They say they have clotted cream, which is a plus.

  1. This is the first time I've heard it called the Royialton Suites. That's the former Jewel of Newbury location, a sort of urban bed and breakfast, a former residential brownstone. I'd expect small rooms and not much in the way of the kind of hotel amenities that business travelers expect. It might be fine for tourists without a car looking for a convenient Back Bay location.

I'm guessing the London Cafe must be the hotel's private dining room, as the other restaurant space in that location at street level is Mumbai Chopstix, a kind of fancy, Westernized Indian-Chinese restaurant.

I think I'd bring low expectations to a tea at this place. The clotted cream is almost certainly ultra-pasteurized jarred stuff, nothing like the real Devonshire deal, which makes most cream teas in the States disappointing if you've been to a proper one in England. Seems like a dubious bet to me.
