Mother's Day memory

Motosport May 10, 2012 01:53 PM

Many (50?) years ago we took mom out for a Mothers Day Dinner. It was to an old standby stodgy (German?) restaurant on 14th St or 23 St, I think?
I think about the experience every Mothers Day since it was truly awful. Long lines and bad food probably because it was overbooked.
For the life of me I can't remember the name of the place.
Anyone???

I think it may have been Luchow's on 14th Street (just did a quick search on Bing). I couldn't remember the name either but remembered there used to be a German restaurant on 14th Street.

We went to Luchow's on 14th St. once in the 1970's. Had the goose, which was delicious. When that location closed and they moved up to the Theater District, we tried it. The food lost something in the transition, and the new place sorely lacked the wonderful ambiance of the old.

I was a young teen back then and was truly amazed by the decor.
