2 South Beach Questions

Firstly, thank you to all who responded to my earlier post (waaay earlier, probably in the winter). As a result of that very helpful feedback, I decided to book at Sustain and was very excited to eat there. Unfortunately, they called me yesterday to say they could not honour the reservation because they are/were closing. So, the questions are:

1. We were thinking of attempting Barceloneta as an alternative; however, I understand it does not take reservations. How long of a wait would we expect on a Monday at around 8ish? Is there a bar on the premises to loiter at while we wait for a table?

2. Any suggestions for cheap and cheerful breakfast places within walking distance of Collins and 18th? Something like a diner, bagel joint or that idea.

With advanced thanks, I look forward to any responses.

I would do La Provence (really close to you on collins and lincoln) or A la Folie (on espanola - a bit of a walk) for breakfast.

There is a bar at barceloneta but it won't be necessary. Pubbelly is closed on monday.

I agree that on a Monday night you shouldn't have a wait at Barceloneta or most other restaurants in South Beach. If there is any wait, you could try either Pubbelly or Pubbelly Sushi, both right next door, owned and operated by the same folks as Barceloneta and equally as good as Barceloneta in my opinion.

Regarding breakfast spots, I would head appx 3 blocks southwest to Lincoln Road where you will find many options for breakfast. Paul is pretty close to where you'll enter Lincoln Road (a pedestrian-only shopping and dining district) but I would also recommend Ice Box and Balan's which are a few blocks further west. Paul is French and probably the most economical with indoor and outdoor seating. Balans is the furthest, maybe a touch more expensive (but actually a good value) also with indoor/outdoor seating. They have a great breakfast and some good breakfast specials if you get there by 9 or 10 I believe.

Mondays are slow dining days. I don't think there'll be a wait at all.
