Had another wonderful dinner at the Modern the other night.
First, I always forget how loud the dining room can be when the bar room is busy. Asked to switch to a more quiet table and were moved immediately. Thanks.
Our Captain was Marco, who was more Old-school service than Danny Meyer Service, but that is always a nice change as well from the "let me hold your hand" through the meal attitude you get with some younger servers.
Overall a great meal. I think that the Modern has stepped up its game now that it is the highest end meyer establishment.
Opted for the 4 course prix fixe with wine pairings (half-glasses, which were great...lots to try and not totally wasted at the end of dinner).
Everything was excellent!
Trio of seafood, raw
Spring Pea Soup
Quail with Morels
King crab cannelloni
Rack of Lamb
The raw seafood trio was great as was the king crab-picture perfect tweezer food.
Scallops were good, rhubarb compote was tasty and not too sweet. pea soup was very pea-ey...nice
The lamb had a pointless tableside presentation (which i enjoy, don't get me wrong), where they basically take a double chop out of the pan and slice it in half. Not like the duck where there are multiple slices, real craft work required.
The quail stole the show. With morels and jura wine it was a super fancy version of chicken marsala...very tender for quail and delicious.
We abused the chocolate cart after dinner.
Great time as always. I really enjoy the food and service here. I'll be back soon.
