Hi fellow 'hounds. The husband will be traveling to Mystic next week with a couple of co-workers, and I'm trying to come up with a few places he might want to try while he's there. They can be busy on these trips, and usually not able to commit to any particularly 'destination' dining, (no reservations or lingering long over meals) but he has been married to me long enough to have learned the error of his former Applebee's/Olive Garden/TGIFriday's ways......
Landlocked as we are here in St. Louis, I know he is dreaming of a lobster roll, he also likes a microbrewery-type restaurant...two of these guys are Brits, so the availability of a tasty local beer is a particular plus. Any and all recommendations will be welcomed. Thanks, eastern hounds!

  1. Hi Toni,
In Mystic I would certainly recommend Mystic Oyster Club. They have a great happy hour from 4-6 with reduced price beers and $1 Noank oysters. The menu is limited and a little pricey, but very good. Staff is great.

There is a Spring Food Stroll in downtown New London on the 16th that might be worth checking out if the weather is good and you have the time. You also could take a ride over to Stonington Borough which is lovely. I would recommend Dog Watch, Water Street Cafe and/or Noah's. For the landlocked, you might want to have a beer at Skipper's Dock just because you won't find anything like it in St. Louis.
As for local beer, try Cottrell and Grey Sail.
    Enjoy!

I would suggest Kitchen Little (now at the Mystic River Marina) for breakfast- outstanding.

Thanks, guys! And helen wheels, my daughter is a Helen, too... but she's the HelKat (Helen Kathleen), although when she is roller-skating her dad likes to call her Helen Wheels. Her uncle, who is a dork, didn't like the name because he worried she might marry a guy whose last name was Ahandbasket. Seriously.
I've been perusing the 'net as to the recommendations, checking out hours and menus, and now I'm jealous that I'm not going on this trip.
