Solo dining at WD-50 bar

LeoLioness May 8, 2012 10:32 AM

I'll have a Friday night in NYC to myself in early June. What are the chances of getting seated at the bar if I go right at 6pm? I'm fine with eating/drinking alone, but really dislike standing around a bar waiting for a seat alone. I've been wanting to eat here for ages and this is the only chance I'll have this go around.

You should be able to get a seat at the bar at 6:00 pm without any problem. I think that there are menu changes in the works so check the website for updates.

Thanks! I had read about the change in menu but now am concerned that just "a few" dishes will be a la cart at the bar (I'm open to, but would ultimately prefer to not do a tasting). I'll check back after they update the site.

As I understand it, the tasting menus are not available at the bar.

Bar diners can order any three dishes off the the two tasting menus for some set fee I can't remember (but didn't seem a lot). They can then order additional dishes for some other (reasonable-seeming) supplement. As I understand it, at least.

"If you're eating at the bar, you can get any two items off either menu for $25, with the option to try any other dishes you want for $15 each."

That's kind of a great deal, right?

Thank you, Kathryn. That is a pretty great deal.

I dined at WD in Ocotobr Solo and did the tasting menu. I did it around the same time you wanted, about 6pm and it was fine. However as kathryn says, you can do the al carte deal but I think you should be able to do the tasting at the bar as well. I would call and check, they are friendly and pretty accomidating.

Note that as of today or tomorrow they are changing their entire format, so what happened in October may no longer apply.

While this may not be WD-50's intention, the new pricing means that you can order every dish on the tasting menu a la carte for $190 (in non-tasting portions)? They might as well offer it at the bar, therefore.

Reminds me of when Tailor refused to substitute a dish on their tasting menu for me, so I ordered the tasting - with substitution - a la carte, for about the same money.
