Tap Phong..

petek May 8, 2012 09:53 AM

Anybody know if Tap Phong carries knife rolls(Heckles)? I know they carry almost everything under the sun,but I can't recall seeing any there.

Also, anywhere else I could pick one up(other than Nicolau)?

Tap Phong definitely carries knife rolls, they keep them behind the counter where they also keep the knives. IIRC think they have 2; one for $20+tax, another for $35+tax. If you're culinary student, don't forget to mention it, to get 10% off.

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just want to replace my aging and beat up Heckles roll(8 years of heavy usage, not too bad) or something similar $20,-$35. price range.

I saw one at Nikolai and Nella. Both seemed a bit flimsy and way too expensive.

If you search "knife roll" on amazon.ca there are a few messermeisters and some wustof ones, and the price is unbeatable. I think they are on sale right now, right in and under your price range depending on the model.

I bought one at Nikilaou and it was good quality and under $50 with tax.

in that price range, they'll be flimsy.

the best one on the market imo is....

perhaps too much roll for you.

Nice roll, but you're right it's too much roll for me.
This Henckels is the perfect size(a bit flimsy)but it fits into my rucksack and doesn't take up too much space at work or home.

Toss and Serve at FCP sells them. George Brown also sells Knife rolls But I not sure about the brand.

I got my mine from George Brown - they had 3 types ranging in price from $30 to $75. They also have the Goerge Brown logo on them.

            Lee Valley?

Crappy Tire for tool rolls, too--unless you've got to have the designer version.

              Gotta have the designer version,cause that's how I roll....as long as it's inexpensive :-D

The tool rolls are cool but I don't think my knives will fit into the slots.

If you want the really fancy ones, you can order them from JB Prince in New York. They are pretty expensive but you will look good ; )
