Fish anyone?

Where can I find a good fish restaurant preferably in the mid - to downtown areas. They can serve other food as well, but want a fairly good selection of fish.

I like Starfish and Zee the best, then Rodney's by Bay next (can be somewhat hit or miss), then Adega (for octopus-havent tried their finfish). Sadly, I was underwhelmed by the food at Chiado on my last visit.

I've also been happy with any finfish I've ordered at Nota Bene, Opus and Scaramouche.

Joso's is on my wishlist, as is Diana's.

For a northern option, Terra does fish well. I've had good whole fish at Aria and Pantheon, though I'd be more inclined to go with the grilled octopus and calamari at Pantheon. Joso's is excellent, but very pricey. I didn't have fish when I was there, but Zucca's platter of fresh fish and seafood selections looked fantastic the night I was there. For a Cantonese option, O'Mei does a very good job with fresh whole fish from their tanks, done with ginger and green onions, not to mention other seafood delicacies.

Prima, if you love fish/seafood, run to Joso's, don't walk! The food is delicious and it's quite the dining experience!!

Thanks kwass. It's been on my wishlist for a long time. I haven't done much fine dining in TO lately. Hope to try Joso's in the next few months.

Haven't been in a while, but if it's as good as I remember, you're in for a treat. And it's already been mentioned, but Chiado is a must try!!

Starfish (downtown). Zee Grill (midtown). Diana's (Scarborough). Of the three, Zee Grill probably has the fewest choices, as they seem to have more "other seafood" than fish. But there are always at least 2 fish options on the menu.

Although I've never been to either, people say Chiado is the place to go for fish.

There's also Joso's but it's much more expensive. A friend claimed Joso's served her the best fish she's ever had bar none.

Ooh, good call on Chiado. Excellent fish selection. But yes, very expensive.

Chiado is great, but could be a little intimidating for a novice seafood restaurant patron. I'm just guessing that the OP may not have been to very many. I could be wrong.

Cribbing from TorontoJo's list, I'd say she's listed them in ascending order of relaxed and casual with Diana's being the most casual.

Why oh why does everyone forget about Rodney's By Bay? Beau and I had lunch there this week and it's just as good as ever. I prefer it over Starfish because the food is of comparable quality and execution, the prices slightly lower, and the service is, as always, perfection itself. I can't wait for them to open location two, John & Sons Oyster House, near Yonge & St Clair.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on Rodney's by Bay's other dishes. I've tried their offerings on a number of occasions but have not been overly impressed. A number of complaints ranging from too small of a portion for the price to poorly prepared dishes.

I generally just go for oysters which I quite enjoy.

I'd recommend Joso's but as others have stated it is not cheap.

Pantheon was good but I haven't been in a couple of years so maybe someone else can chime in with a more recent opinion.

I really like Pantheon but it is really old school Greek family place. Some people may not find it as charming as I do.
