We ate there tonight (Sat 6/30) the steaks were excellent but this place needs help. When you first enter you look at the girl with the pink streaked hair who doesn't greet you. After you say hello she says are you together? "Yes there are four of us." She replies: "Ok guys follow me." There were two guys but there were two ladies???? Then she asks "Where do you want to sit?" Hello, you’re the hostess you are supposed to sit us. We pick a table. Then we wait and wait and wait. Finally a waitress comes over to ask what we want to drink and can she take our wine to be opened. Five minutes later the pink hair girl comes with our water and a diet coke. She thought she had one water too many and takes one back. Really? Four people four waters?? Do the math. Our waitress returns and takes our order for appetizers. Word to the wise: Order appetizers and food at the same time. Again we wait and wait. We did ask for bread and were told: “I’ll try to dig some up for you in the kitchen”. Your ad bragged about corn bread but we would have settled for bread crumbs. Bread was never served. Finally our appetizers arrive and we have to ask the bus guy for plates since fried calamari and clams on the half shell are hard to share without plates. I have to admit the appetizers were great. Now we wait and wait and wait for our steaks. First one comes out: it was supposed to be the rib eye special but my friend accepts the regular rib eye. Then comes my 12 oz. sirloin. I ordered extra mushrooms and onions but didn’t get them. Next is the filet mignon and again something is missing: mashed potatoes. The fourth steak is nowhere to be found. They bring out what looks like a plain sirloin and we tell the server the rib eye special was ordered. The waitress comes out and starts to read what she wrote on her order pad which is about 2”x3” (no wonder the chef couldn’t read the order). ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! It’s not her fault that the kitchen cooked the regular rib eye but we agree…just give it to us. She said the chef wants to cook the special and we say NO. We’re fine just give us the rib eye. 20 minutes later they bring out the 4th dish which turned out to be GREAT! So he eats alone since we finished a long time ago. Now we order desert. Another LONG LONG wait. It’s delicious but we are so tired of waiting that we just want to go home. Out of the blue someone comes to our table and tells us the ice cream is on them for the mix-up with the 4th steak. Ok you picked the cheapest desert we ordered to comp. We thought it was a nice gesture. We will probably go back since the steaks were cooked to perfection but we hope they get their act together and read this review as suggestions of what not to do. Use common sense. Put the corn bread on the table like your ad says. Hire a hostess who greets people and directs them to a table. Have the bus boy fill water glasses and soda without having to ask. For God’s sake: get the orders right. You cook the best steaks in Ocean County…Stop screwing it up!!!!

re: lovesteak
We went back to Augie's last night and it was WONDERFUL! Hostess was friendly and seated us immediately. Our waitress, Brittany was EXCELLENT!. Her recommendations were outstanding. We were so happy we went back for a second time since we loved the steaks the first time. Now we can enjoy the service as much as the food. So glad they are running this place the way a good steak house should be run. We would highly recommend Augie’s to family and friends. Great job!

re: lovesteak
So tonight we go to Augie's for dinner. I leave the table on the pretext that I have to get take out menu's and tell the hostess and the manager that I'm in trouble for missing my husband's birthday since I was out of town. I hand the hostess a package of candles and ask if they would put some candles in his desert. Ok we will. So desert comes and no candles. I try to signal the hostess who is on her phone probably texting and she doesn't see me. I can't believe that they forgot. So as we are leaving I ask for my candles and the hostess says: "I told them". Ok fine you did but neither you nor the manager followed up with either the waitress or the pastry chef. Now what should have been a great night is NOT!!! Once again the food is great but they don't go the extra step. And what really makes me mad is that they kept my $4.00 worth of candles. I hope they use them for someone else's birthday since tomorrow night I'm going to another restaurant and making sure they bring desert with his candles. Not sure when I will be back since they ruined a "special night" for us. Get your act together and give the returning customers "SERVICE". We are the ones who will keep your doors open when the summer trade is gone.

Quine, are the owners still the ones who own Antoinetta's, on the bay? They seem to be putting forth some effort, but without a clue on a formula that works. Steakhouse? I mean this is "dentureville". I can only see a $10.95 entree place for the long term.

re: chefdaddyo
No idea on that. I googled around and could not find any info. The sign says Augie's Seafood steak and chops, so I have no idea what to expect. I go by it on my way to JT's in Eagleswood. And it is "this side" of the bridge, so not expecting that crowd to beat a path to the door either.
