Good Eats SW of Philly???

  • 3

Looking for a fun and funky spot to celebrating my son's graduation from a college 11 miles South West of Philly over Memorial Day weekend. Traveling from MA and don't know the area very well at all...Graduation finishes up around noon, so we would be looking to get lunch somewhere with good food that isn't too upscale but works for a graduation. Ideas?

  1. Congratulations to you and your son. What school is he graduating from? 11 Miles southwest of Philadelphia is not that descriptive.

My other comment is that most good restaurants closest to whatever campus he went to will be booked up all ready. You are going to be better off going into Philadelphia where you have more selection and you are not competing with the hoards of graduation families.

Do you have specific food preferences? Italian, asian, tapas etc? That will help folks provide a better set of options as well.

Thanks for your kind words and suggestions! He is graduating from Swarthmore College which is located in Swarthmore, PA. I think you are correct about the crowds and we would be fine with heading into Philly if you had a good suggestion or two...he's a foodie like me so he would be open to just about anything, but would get a kick out of some place iconic to the area or a place that had a fun, quirkiness about it in some way...

Congratulations to your future Swarthmore graduate! I would suggest looking at Chow threads or Yelp reviews for Havertown, Lansdowne, Media, Drexel Hill, and Upper Darby.

If you're still in the area for dinner, I've read good things about Sycamore in Lansdowne, which has been listed as one of the top 50 restaurants in the area this past year and where the chef has an interesting concept for cocktails (you provide the booze and they provide the mixing skill and other ingredients). It's about six miles northeast from Swarthmore and therefore, closer to the city. Good luck!
