Please advise, Saturday dinner for 3, similar to Bondir?
Mother and Aunt visiting, looking for Saturday night dinner, 3-4 courses each (unless there are affordable chef's/tasting menus). Went to Bondir in Cambridge last time, and it was the best dinner I've had in Boston since everything was spectacularly designed/prepared and we could build a meal because all dishes are available as half portions (still big) for $15. I'm not looking for very fancy or very expensive, so L'espalier, Craigie, and places like that are out of question. A more spacious gastropub would also be good.
Any suggestions help!
Thanks

My suggestion would be Bistro du Midi on Boylston St. The food and service and very good. The foods tends to be creative and focuses on seasonal indgredients. In my opinion they have the best version of the classic French Boulbaisse in Boston. My wife loves one of the appetisers, Seared Prawns, Ragu Of Shrimp & Fregola Sarda, Smoked Paprika Emulsion. She usually orders a double order as an entree. I also like the setting of restaurant because it overlooks the Boston Public Garden so if you have an early reservation and request a table near the front windows you can enjoy all the trees that are flowering this time of year.

Bergamot, Rendezvous, Ten Tables and TC Food are the "comps" in the area, I believe. Central Kitchen is a level below, IMO. Bergamot gets my vote for your request.

Ditto on Bergamot and would add Catalyst in Kendall Square.

Meze at Oleana, perhaps, maybe splitting a couple entrees? http://www.oleanarestaurant.com/eat-a...
For gastropub, the best I can think of is Russell House Tavern, which certainly has its winners, but it's hard to put it in the same breath as a place like Bondir.

re: emannths
Russell House also does not have a gastropub vibe on a Saturday night - it's more like elegant 90s pick-up-bar.
Went to Oleana last night with wife and MiL - we shared a few meze (carrot puree, salad with eggplant puree, falafel (which comes with three portions)) for apps...and one entree (chicken) with two other meze (octopus, scallop kibbe special) and it was more than enough. I have not been to Bondir, but I am guessing that the dishes at Oleana are not nearly as refined/composed as those, but the flavors were excellent (if you like those sorts of Middle-Eastern/Mediterranean-spiced dishes.)
