House of Curries [Oakland; Split from Old Place Seafood Teahouse thread]
New tenant in the Old Place Seafood location is now House of Curries, the 7th EBay location of the local kebab/curry chain. Not the greatest Indian food around, but more than adequate and the price is extremely reasonable.
Note that once you get menus, you go up to the counter to order. The waiter there only takes orders for very large parties. Chai and water are self-serve/free, similar to their other locations. But the dining room has a new coat of paint, making it both larger and a bit nicer than HC's other locations.

Hi, we live next door to , 'Ole Place' Nd really miss the convenience of having them so close. I
definitely wanted to try the new establishment and welcome them to our neighborhood. However
our take out food was, at best, mediocre. This was when they first opened so,perhaps, I will give
them a second chance.
Interesting that it's on OpenTable -- that's my nabe, and the few times I've been to pick up a takeout order, there's only ever a couple tables occupied. Seems like they do mostly takeout business, so OpenTable's fee structure would seem like a losing proposition for them. It's not a place I would ever think about making a reservation for.
Food is OK. I like their mango lassi and their kinda-chewy veggie samosas. The main dishes are hit-or-miss.

Just got takeout from there last night. The restaurant was empty at 8pm. They've managed to take what was an odd interior space and make it even less appealing. Wish the food was decent, but it wasn't. Mostly bland orange sauces, overcooked veg. The malai kofte was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it.
