Frankfort and Traverse City, Michigan and all that

I'm a eastern (Maryland) USA person returning to one of the most beautiful places in the world. We will be there in late August. What now, are the best (hate to say "best") restaurants up there? What I tend to remember are great smoked fish and Kielbasa up on the peninsula. And all the wine.
So, where should we go on this trip?

Forgot to mention a great Mexican restaurant up there.... Red Mesa Grill. They have two locations; one in Traverse City, and one in Boyne City.

La Becasse is very good.... about half an hour from Traverse City by Glenn Arbor.

Oh, you are in for so much more than smoked fish and kielbasa... What type of cuisine are you looking for? Fine dining, farm-to-table, hole-in-the-wall? Or all of the above? :) Are you looking to splurge or cheap eats?
