  1. don't know of any beef ramen.

chicken on the westside = jinya.

    1. In Japan, beef ramen would be about as easy to find as pork sushi. Chicken is fairly common, and often quite good.

Fujin has beef ramen (Taiwanese NRM), Jidaiya has chicken ramen. Enjoy.

Tony, sorry if the comment bothered you.

Rather than being "bothered" I think TC was remarking on the fact of your statement qualifying as a classic non sequitur.

      2. Many ramen places have a miso-based or soy-based (shōyu) ramen available in addition to the pork based variety (tonkotsu). I am not aware of any Japanese ramen with beef stock.

Beef is a very expensive product in Japan so any ramen made with beef bones would be costly and ramen isn't seen has a pricey meal in Japan so I'd be surprised to find anyone using 100% beef based broth.

        2. Now that the topic has been broached, is there a good bowl of niu rou mien (Chinese stewed beef noodles) on the Westside? Preferably with beef tendon.

Sorry, I don't know any (let me know if you find one). Don't suppose pho would substitute? Though finding great pho west of the 405 is no easy task either.

Not finding many places on the westside that even serves NRM, much less a good bowl of it. Dragon Palace apparently serves it, but I wasn't hot on their other dishes the only time I've gotten food from there, so not sure I want to give it a chance.

Looks like Joss Cuisine has a "Traditional Braised Beef Noodles" dish:

"Slices of tender choice steak braised in a star anise marinade, with Chef
Golo’s special beef broth served over homemade noodles. $16.00"

At that price, it better be good, but I have no idea.

              Pho ain't NRM.

Thanks for the lead at Joss. I may take one for the team and investigate...

Oh believe me, I know (heh, I actually wrote "I pho" at first). But I was just thinking of another more readily accessible noodle soup that could compete/substitute on sheer beefiness.

If you're coming from the Westside I'd think anyone would take either a good bowl of pho or NRN.

Can I safely say the answer to this is "no."

I mean ,there's a 101 Noodle Express at Fox Hills but they were never that good for NRM.

            3. Actually Gottsui (the okonomyaki specialist on Sawtelle in West LA) serves a beef ramen during lunchtime only. It's surprisingly not terrible.
