Kabob House Chickpea Recipe - Afghan/Pakistan/Indian cuisine? [moved from DC/Baltimore]
I love the chickpeas at the Food Corner kabob restaurants. If the food was Italian I would know where to look for recipes but I don't know if this particular recipe is from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, etc. - and I am not familiar enough with the spices to know how how to decipher the ingredients/spices. The website says that the chickpeas are in an Afghan Tomato sauce but I have not been able to hunt that down either. Any suggestions?
I know that a lot of people love Ravi's chickpeas - I have not been there so I do not know if they are similar. I know that those are supposed to Lahori (Pakistan) style. Are there similarities with Afghan/Pakistan cuisine/recipes?
Paki and Indian Cholle recipes tend to be more complexly spiced and often contain souring spice like mango powder and Black salt.
Afghan Tomato sauce is usually spiced with coriander but there are many variations and their close proximity to Pakistan and India mean they have access to lots of spices.
You can find lots of recipes for Indio/Paki Chick Pea dishes with a simple search. As for the Chick Peas in Afghan Tomato sauce, I have never seen this dish, there is a well know dish called Shor Nakhod which is a Potato and Chick Pea salad in a spicy green Chutney.
Thank you for your reply. The dish is a side dish that is offered with kabobs, rice, naan and salad. As I am unfamiliar with the different spices I can't figure out what is in the chickpeas. The recipes that I have made trying to duplicate it are more Indian chaat masala style - and I agree they have a more sour note. I added amchoor today and it was really sour.
I am including the link in case anyone can look at the picture and have that click with a recipe or cuisine.
