Pier Burger on The Santa Monica Pier. Sounds Good.

  • 5

It seems our version of New York's Shake Shake has opened on the Santa Monica Pier called of course "Pier Burger" and it's run by the Water Grill people. Nice review in LA Weekly. They even have custard shakes! Sounds really good. Anyone been yet?

  1. Thanks for the link, wienermobile. Sounds good and the ambiance, of course, can't be beat. Will check it out soon.

    1. I went when they opened and enjoyed the burger, decent and reasonably priced for the Pier. The custard is dispensed from soft serve machines and not custard machines. They said the machines were coming, but they would have to do work on the space to get them in. The custard as is tastes a little off. I'm waiting for the custard machines to come in. I believe it will be the only true custard place in LA. Strickland's in Irvine has all the consistency of custard and even can be held upside down, but contains no egg. Love to hear what others think.

      1. Good old school burger's. More to my taste than all the gourmet burgers on offer these days. Good fries, too. Custard unmemorable.

        1. We tried it a couple months ago. The burger and fries were very good - similar to In n' Out's in style, but bigger and better. As for ambiance, though, it wasn't for me - we sat on the patio and it was deafeningly loud, between the music, carnival rides, and screaming children. I heard that they are only occupying the existing building temporarily and are planning to build a whole new one in its place - I don't know if that's true, and don't know what would happen to it during construction, but I do know that I would prefer a more relaxing setting. Then again, the Pier is what it is, so I guess it's to be expected!

P.S. "Shake Shake", Wienermobile? That's a cute name!
