Crow's Nest, Warwick, RI - sad disappointment
We found ourselves in Warwick yesterday (chasing down a Craigslist item....but that's for another board) and decided to try the Crow's Nest for some fried seafood. Decided to split a seafood platter. Things started off well enough...nice salad with very impressive French rolls (warm, crusty...mmmm). The seafood was sad. Greasy, overcooked. The fish had a beer-type batter...not our favorite..and could have been a bit fresher for our tastes. Scallops were bay, not sea, and didn't have much flavor.
Portions were ridiculously large, and the kitchen kindly divided up our order onto 2 plates and gave us each a full coleslaw side. Not necessary (we didn't ask for this), but thoughtful. Service was great and the atmosphere is lovely, with a spanking clean dining room and awesome view of the marina. Alas, we won't return since the food was so mediocre.

Next time, try Buttonwoods Fish & Chips in Warwick. Possibly the best fried seafood in RI. Fries & onion rings are fresh cut to order. I prefer flounder for F&C, but their cod is quit excellent as well as their whole bellies & sea scallops (both being best I've found in RI). Best sure to split the order - should be plenty for two, but skip the slaw. With everything else made to order, I'm not sure why they don't make their own slaw.
