Dancing Greek Taverna in London- great Greek food at great prices
Had a super experience at Dancing Greek Taverna last night. Best spanakopita and dolmades I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Better grilled octopus than I've ordered in Toronto recently, and best fried calamari I've had in a long time. I love the fact they've got maroulosalata on the menu, in addtion to the other Greek salads.
The hot pikilia (appetizer platter) for 4 was massive- loaded with loukaniko, spanakopita, dolmades, zucchini fritters, keftedes. We took some leftovers home, so I jusy enjoyed some of the leftover spanakopita and dolmades for breakfast!
Incredibly generous portions at very reasonable prices. The moussaka ($12) and pastitso ($12) were twice as big as recent portions on the Danforth. The 3 lamb chop dinner with roasted potatoes cost $19.
Everything tasted fresh. Most important to me was the fact the kitchen pays attention to the details. There was the right amount of fresh dill in the maroulosalata, and none of the food we ordered was oversalted. Dolmades were firm, and the filo on the spanakopita was crisp.
Our server was friendly, attentive and courteous, and it was nice that the owner stopped by to see how our meal was going.
Other tables were ordering gyros in a pita, and souvlaki, and the portions looked generous. In addition to the Greek specialties, the restaurant offers Huron House favourites, such as roast beef. Most menu items are less than $20. There are daily specials from Mon-Sat, including rabbit, goat stew and stuffed tomatoes.
Several Greek wines were available on the wine list, as well as popular labels like Yellowtail. We liked the Hatzimichaelis Cab we tried.
Located in the plaza on the SE corner of Huron and Highbury. Walk through the diner/luncheonette to reach the Dancing Greek Taverna at the back. Open 7 nights a week, with live Greek music on Fridays and Saturdays.
