question about pizza in Tucson
Can anyone tell me what style of pizza is common at the mom and pop shops around Tucson? Is it more of a California style? I've done some googling and it seems there are many places offering NY style or "gourmet" pizza, however I'm curious what style is sold in the local indie bars, pubs, and restaurants around town.
Being originally from New York, I don't know what "California Style" pizza is. However, I can tell you that most of the so-called pizza you'll find in Tucson is terrible. You will usually find thin crusts, tomato sauce that is badly over-sweetened and/or over-salted, and cheese that may or may not be real.
After years of seeking a decent slice, I've found just three places that don't disappoint. They are Grimaldi's, Sauce, and Scordato's Pizzaria, formerly known as Vivace's Pizzaria.
