Sweetbreads

I live here in New Orleans and love dining out when I can afford it. I really love sweetbreads. I'm looking to go out for my birthday next week and I'm wondering: Who has the best sweetbreads? I've had them at a couple of places, but I'm wondering what y'all think. Also, my birthday is on a Monday, so a place open on Monday would be nice, but I could always go out on a different night, too.

Hey y'all. I just wanted to report in on my birthday dinner and how it went. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't take yall's advice and went to Iris instead. I'm happy to say, however, that the sweetbreads were delicious. We also had foie gras, hangar steak, lamb, and a poached pear appetizer. All were delicious. Thanks do much for the suggestions and I will definitely try them sometime. By the way, I tried but I couldn't get a reservation at Bayona or we would have gone there.

I just had the sweetbreads risotto at Rue 127 last night. They were terrific, the best dish of the meal, and the sweetbreads themselves were perfect.

I almost always order sweetbreads when I'm at Bayona, and I had them today for lunch--they really are divine. On Saturdays, Bayona offers a $25 lunch--you choose three items from the appetizers, soups, and salads. That's a great deal, and there is a sweetbread appetizer.

We went to August for our anniversary on Sunday night, and their sweetbreads were AMAZING. I think it was the best meal I've ever had.

I second La Boca. They are prepared simply and grilled with some salt and a squeeze of lemon. They are amazing, appetizer or entree. My other favorite is Galatories, simple lemon beurre blanc sauce with capers...Galatories' version made me fall in love with eating offal.

Not form New Orleans, just a tourist who has visited often - one of my many favorite things to eat in New Orleans is the Sweet Breads at Bayona - "one of the best things I have eaten". They are available as an appetizer or main course.

Also Clancy's and Galatoire's have them.

I think the previously mentioned Clancy's and a Bayona have the best in town. For pure gluttony, La Crepe Nanou has an entree portion that is huge. And pretty good, too.

Thanks for the suggestions! What makes the sweetbreads at Bayona so special? I Have actually never been there and tend to see mixed reviews on the place.

I'm a Bayona fan for the food, although the service has been spotty.

MiLa has had a sweetbread app that one group i was with ended up reordering it instead of dessert.

At that time there were 6 of us and all we ordered (and reordered) were apps. MilLa's menu is very seasonal so of the following all I remember are the oysters and the sweetbreads
