looking for best deals on bottles of wine

Hi Hounds-

I'm looking for exciting deals on bottles of wines. I'll go anywhere! I'd especially love to find a great sancerre at a low price... does it exist?! Or are there other bottles that you love?

  1. Since this topic isn't so much about particular stores, you might get better responses by posting on the Wine forum.

As for deals on the city, Astor Place is good and Warehouse on Broadway is cheap, but for more "special" bottles I like Vintry down in Battery Park City and Chambers St. Wines. (And of course Sherry Lehman when I'm uptown.)

I'm not a huge sancerre fan, but two bottles I do like are Domaine Paul Thomas Sancerre Chavignol Les Comtesses and the Serge Laloue (which is about $13 at Astor).

    1. Thanks, loratliff! I guess I figured the wine board was not regional and so might not get great local leads. If there are other favorite deals you know of at Astor or Warehouse, please share!

NYC is so big and has such a huge variety of stores that you'll undoubtedly be able to find most of the bottles recommended, so a topic of inexpensive sancerre (if there hasn't been one already) wouldn't be a bad idea.

      2. Take a look at PJ's wines. North of Harlem, great variety, good prices.

        1. What does "low price" mean to you?

Sorry, I should have specified... $15 and under.

          2. For wines under $15 Trader Joe's Wine Shop on 14th is my go-to.

              Any favorite bottles?

            2. For great deals, get on the email list of Columbus Wines (Columbus near 96th St) and wait til they have a sale: they do 30% off sales on mixed cases, which is a wonderful way to replenish one's wine cellar w/ the good stuff...the owner Murray makes fine recommendations too, and while the store is small, their French selections are very well chosen...

Thank you, Simon! I'll check that out.

I don't know where you are located, but I do know that Columbus Wines will deliver (at least in the neighborhood). Makes it really easy when you are purchasing one of those mixed cases.

              2. Garnet and Gotham are also good for deals.
