Alternative to Cru Cafe in Charleston?

Hi All -

I posted a few months ago about my husband's and my upcoming trip to Charleston. We're super excited, particularly about all our meals. Our dining itinerary as it stands today is below but I need help finding a good Monday (Memorial Day) lunch option. Cru Cafe seemed perfect but alas it's closed Mondays. Others I'm considering are 82 Queen (but there are some food negative reviews on here), Amen Street (but we're already doing seafood at Bowens Island) and Closed for Business. Would love some opinions! Thank you!

Saturday -
Oysters at Bowens Islands
Late night dinner at Husk

Sunday
Brunch at High Cotton
Dinner at McCradys

Monday
Lunch ??
Dinner at FIG

Tuesday
Early breakfast at Hominy Grill before flight

  1. Hey,

You do know Bowen's doesn't open until 5, right? If you're trying to do that for lunch it won't work. You could go to Cru on Saturday for lunch, or Amen, if your set on oysters.

Closed for Business is an excellent choice. I like 82 Queen. It's not foodie forward, but the patio is pleasant and their she crab soup is the best in town.

Do you have reservations for all your choices? If not do so today. Memorial Day is right in the middle of Spoleto Festival and the HD will be crowded.

      Hi Sue!

Thank you! Unfortunately by the time we get in from our flight Saturday, it will pretty much be past lunchtime and my husband is dying to do Bowens Island which is also closed Sundays/Mondays. So our plan is to get there right at 5pm, have a few oysters and beers and then continue on to Husks later that evening for a 9:30pm dinner. We do have reservations at all the places on our itinerary so we're set! Thanks for the opinions on 82 Queen and CFB. We'll pick between those two!!

You have an excellent list. I know you'll enjoy your trip.

You may run into some traffic returning from Bowen's since beachgoers will be leaving Folly. Bring your patience!

I'll be interested in your impressions.

As an alternative, you could check out the few blocks of North Charleston that are being revitalized...Park Circle, right Sue? Maybe 10 min from the HD.

I love EVO pizza...http://evopizza.com/ Strange for a pizza place, but I like their salads best. Check out the description of this week's salad on the front page of the website.

      2. SNOB may be a good choice for lunch.

pemma, it IS a good place for lunch. But, right in the middle of Spoleto, as small as it is, I'm not sure it won't be packed with a line. I could be totally wrong, though.

And, danna, you know how I feel about EVO! I wish it was closer. Or maybe I'm not, since I always get the pork trifecta.

I remembered I still had a pic of the little salad on my phone. I try to recreat it occasionally, lemmony-pickled red onion and some feta being the only accompaniments to the peas and their tendrels.

possibly a TAD healthier than pork trifecta...I'm just guessing that from the name ;-)

That looks great. I begged the EVO people (begged, I tell you) to open up in the old Mama Brown's. But they're putting in a Santi's which is ok with me.

        2. I am in love with butcher and bee for lunch!
I dont do oysters in May but that drive out to Bowens is awesome.
