help finding recipe

Years ago I used a recipe that I loved. No longer no where it is. It may be something that a seafood eater may know. It was started with mashed potatoes placed in baking dish around egdes like a crust. Inside was some shrimp in a cream sauce. Its the sauce I can't remember. Does anyone know of a recipe like that? I would love to make this again.

    1. It sounds like shrimp pie which is similar to shepherd's pie, except with shrimp instead of beef.

      I'd simply make some mashed potatoes then mix that with some flour and an egg or two. I'd also make a batch of Shrimp Newburg, except I'd boost the flour in the roux to make the sauce thicker.

      Then, I'd proceed with your method: Make a "crust" in a pie plate with the mashed potato dough, then fill with the thick Shrimp Newburg, then top with more of the mashed potato "dough". Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F with a baking stone on one of the racks. Then, brush the top "crust" with an egg wash and place the pie directly on the preheated baking stone and bake until the top crust is golden brown, probably about 20 minutes.

      2. I remember having something similar in Rockport, MA in the 1960's. If I tried to replicate it I would make a rich white sauce (1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup flour, 4 cups milk or maybe part half-and-half, salt) then add a little cheddar cheese and some sherry to it, maybe a little minced onion, a pinch of paprika to suggest the pink of the shrimp.

          I made it back in the early 70's when I was first married. The one person who seemed to think they could recognise what I was decribing was from Rhode Island. Thanks
