Walmart launches premium private label line

Well, I guarantee that I won't be rushing through the door to line up for these however I feel that the level of competition in the food distribution network in Ontario (and Canada for that matter) is heating up.
If anyone here has a chance to try any of the new private label products, I would be interested in reading about it.

  1. Not sure. Even with Loblaws chasing its tail, I'm not sure this PC-like line-up will fly with the KD 12-pac crew. Loblaws even pricier Black Label merch is apparently selling poorly around the GTA("who pays 5 bucks for a box of pasta?"). The real slugfest seems to be at the low-end, especially in the 905.

    1. What's the big deal, they're just following suit with the rest of the grocery chains here.

The others all have one "dirt cheap" private label and a more "upscale" line. Loblaws has No Name and President's Choice, Metro has Selection and Irresistibles, Sobey's has Compliments and Sensations. So now Walmart has Great Value and Our Finest.

If you want to compare apples to oranges, Our Finest should be compared to PC, Irresistibles, and Sensations. Loblaws is the only chain to do a third, "super-premium" house label with the black label line (consistent with their strategy of trying to squeeze out all the other brands with the ultimate goal of a store that only sells NN and PC... part of why I won't shop there). I don't see this new Wally line as a Black Label competitor.

      1. MAYBE I try the hot dogs. Other than that, not much on the list excites me.

        1. I doubt there is anything that Walmart could offer that would get me through their doors.
