Restaurant for birthday lunch

I'm looking for a restaurant to take my friend for our annual birthday luncheon. Downtown, Lincoln Square, South Loop, whatever, including north, northwest, and western suburbs. Good food, but more likely interesting food at a trendy place. Lots of the places I think of are only open for dinner.

Sounds like Longman and Eagle would fit all your criteria. Excellent food (they even have 1 Michelin star), in a very trendy food neighborhood (Logan Square), and they serve "brunch," with both breakfast and lunch items every day of the week.
