My friend's coming for her birthday and she couldn't get into Pied. There must be some great places along Mont Royal or between there and Rachel or there and St. Joseph that I can tell her to try!

5ieme Peche or 3 Petits Bouchons just off Mont Royal both fit the bill. Not sure what's meant by 'warm but double check for intimate/cozy and fish. Le P'tit Plateau byo just off Mont Royal also, might not be as fish friendly though.

I absolutely second Lawrence - even if the atmosphere is colder than when they were in the Sparrow premises, the staff will make anyone feel right at home. Other than that maybe Chien Fumant? P'tit Plateau is also really cozy, as is Pintxo. Salle a Manger never feels cozy to me - far too large for that.

Well, it gets pretty hot in there and the seating arrangement is certainly very cozy... ;)

I get what you're saying though. APDC is not a warm and cozy, but Le Filet's decor is pretty cold and harsh.

We did O'Thym, which is probably my favorite resto in Mtl, all things considered. And the atmosphere in Pied is totally warm and cozy, everything looks buttery and lovely, although it's loud as hell.

Agree with the other suggestions - another possibility might be Cafe Sardine. I haven't tried it myself (yet!) but the recent review in the Mirror makes it sound like it might fit the bill. http://www.montrealmirror.com/wp/2012...
