Kaffir Limes

yoyodyne Apr 25, 2012 03:38 PM

Just got back from Vientiane Trading Co. and they won't have any kaffir limes in stock until July so I was wondering if anyone knew any place I could snag some in the meantime?

For sure at Sunny Market. Thanks for posting. I always wondered what those ugly, wart-covered green things were. I'll have to find a good recipe for them. Incidentally, the Foxley on Ossington does a mind-blowing crispy shrimp with keffir lime leaves that is intoxicating. http://www.sunnysupermarket.com/

Hey there... I was just there... wish I had see your posting... wasn't looking so I didn't notice. I go almost every Sunday... Next time I see them there I'll drop you a note. I go to the Don Mills location. Yes, I must go again to the Foxley just for those shrimp.

Now I'm the one who is determined to remember where I found mine. I know without a doubt that I got some one time at a small Indian or Bengali (not sure) grocer on the north side of Danforth near Main... I may even make a trip out there to note it for my address book. It's one of those small, very non-descript and old fruit and vegetable grocers (they have produce outside on wood crates)... Looks like it may have once been a variety store - not fancy. Inside however the unique selection of fruit and veg is incredible. I took a Bengali friend and she was almost hysterical about the selection - like the stuff she used to buy back home... and yes, she bought the limes... They're not cheap but they are, as discussed, intoxicating. A little goes a long way. They also have medicinal uses.

T&T regularly sells kaffir lime leaves, if it helps.

I'm pretty well stocked with lime leaves, it's the fruit i'm looking for.
