Recommendation near American Girl Store? midtown east?

Hi There,

I am going with my four year old daughter to Manhattan this weekend and we will be staying near the american girl doll store near 48th and Lexington. I have been trying to do some research online to find some good casual restaurants in that area and I'm finding it hard to locate things. There's too much information on the internet! I found a review for John's pizzeria that sounded good, but I'd love any other suggestions.

Can anyone recommend some good options for lunch and/or dinner in the midtown east area? Something that would be fairly casual and appropriate for a four year old girl? My daughter would not like gourmet food, but would like really well prepared common food. That's what I like too! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Beacon is certainly kid-friendly, but you might not find the prices so. Menu at link below; not prime 'hound material (like Ma Peche or Seasonal nearby) but has plenty for both young and old.

PS, as you probably already know, the AG store is not on Lex but on Fifth, and 49th.

I always love the restaurant in Saks Fifth Ave for lunch, nice view of Rock Center, good salads and child friendly.

Another place would be Rock Center Grill, in Rock Center, another casual place and Bill's burger Bar on 51st (behind Rock Center). There's also a 5 guys burger and some casual Chinese places on 46th between 5th and 6th.

      Hope that helps.

Just wanted to correct myself, 5 Guys/Chinese restaurant is on 48th between 5th and 6th, even closer to the American Doll place (I walk by these places every morning, just don't always note what street I'm on).

There's also a TGIF Fridays on 5th Ave., but I would not recommend that.

thanks for your tips! I will look into these places

      3. Since you mention American Girl are you going there? If you are there is no better place than lunch at American Girl Cafe with your 4 year old. If she owns a doll or purchases one, doll will dine with you. Food is fun and memorable for child. Once a lifetime experience to go for.

But they are not very likely to get a reservation there for this weekend.

        2. None of these are "chowish" but its all about the experience for a little girl. My daughter loves the following:
American Girl Cafe- If you cannot get in for lunch, try breakfast or tea time.
Alice's Tea Cup, not too far a walk to Lexington and 64th.
Ellen's Stardust Diner, Broadway and 51st.
The all-time fave for her is Ruby Foos at Broadway and 49th.

          1. Sarabeth's CPS
            Serafina Osteria / Serafina Broadway
            Bill's Bar & Burger

Thank you for these recommendations! I wish I could try all these places, but I think there are a lot of good options here and I really appreciate it!

We're actually going to the American girl store and having lunch one day and the rest I'll fill up with some of these suggestions. Can't wait!
