hello Chowhounds!

The 2012 5x5 dinner events dates are set...
I made reservations for Providence, I'm exited about the addition of Michael voltagio...
Who is going? Is it worth it in your opinion?
This will be my 1st time

  1. What's not to like?

Price is not a bargain per se but it's interesting to have all this talent under one roof. And it goes to a good cauuse.

      Thanks foodiemanhoodie!
I Made reservations for 2 but I'm still looking for someone to go with that's able to afford the price, otherwise I'll either be eating alone(boring) or be crushed and cancel... Still have time though!

You have plenty of time to find someone. I'm going to the first one. Maybe the others (see what my plans are like).

I'd love to go to the one in Ink. in September... not sure if they are taking reservations so far in advance...??

          1. re: yesilovestotravel

            I'd bet they do.

    2. Dunno how I missed this in the news cycle. Just made reservations for Providence. I'm sure the Melisse/Ludo dinner will be great (and I'm betting you'll get a healthy portion of foie gras somewhere in there).

Love Ink, but I've had Cosentino's offerings at Boccalone and now Umamicatessen and haven't really been blown away. I'm sure the other chefs will do interesting things in the ink setting though.

I hear you andy, I've heard mixed reviews about Umamicatessen... but I love M. Voltaggio! and Ink.
Still on the search for a dinning partner for Providence... if any chowhounders interested, let me know.

        Thanks,

BTW - the Melisse 5X5 is sold out and wait-listed.

Yeah, I figured as much... I have the reservation for providence... I thought it was the next "best" .
I have to call Ink. For september... Not so much for Cosentino, but for my love for ink. And voltaggio... He is amazing at what he does, and such a great attitude, I had a chance to chat with him a bit last time I was there... he's a cool guy... And the tattoos don't hurt either... :)

        2. Just wanted to update this thread in case anyone is considering any of the future 5x5 events. Went to the Providence one a few weeks ago and it was quite delicious. The SO and I are big fans of Ubuntu, and we loved the dish that Jeremy Fox contributed, as well as the rest of the offerings. No misses for me on the night. I don't think the pocketbook will allow me to attend anymore this year, but I wouldn't hesitate to participate in it again next year.

          1. I attended the 5x5 dinner at Angelini last night. Not a dud amongst the courses and the chefs seemed to be having a lot of fun. One of the advantages of having a late reservation was watching most of the chefs come out into the dining room and mingle with the guests. We wound up having the coolest chat with Rory Herrmann from Bouchon. It was certainly not a cheap meal, but wholly satisfying. Of particular note were Cimarusti's scallop, Angelini's amuses, and Herrmann's Caesar veloute. Kind of makes me want to sign up for the next two, although my bank account might get cross with me.
