Issues with truffle oil on Chopped?!?

At least once, but likely more often, I've witnessed a collective and dramatic groan from the Chppoed judges when a contestant 'ruins' their creation by a last minute addition of truffle oil. Which begs the question: why stock truffle oil _at all_ if it's considered a newbie's faux-pas? Essentially, its' presence on the shelf is a challenge to fail. What's next, wormwood and fugu?

I don't expect this topic thread to have much legs, but merely pointing out something that bugged me.

This reminds me of reading that they stopped stocking cabbage in the pantry because people kept making slaws.

What's wrong with giving the contestants enough rope to hang themselves? :)

right they have canned tomatoes too which is almost always criticized and then sometimes they deliberately don't have an item that they are going to need like a spice or herb, enough cream for 2 contestants.

And one ice cream machine for up to four contestants... They should also have to wrassel each other for access to running water.

Sweet Genius has enough ice cream machines for all contestants. It would be a pretty unique day if all 4 contestants on Chopped wanted to use the ice cream machine for their appetizer. Though yes sometimes both dessert contestants want to use the ice cream machine. But why do people want to ban French Toast, but not ice cream?

well considering one of the challenges on sweet genius is specifically a frozen one, it would be significantly more unfair to make them battle over the best instrument for frozen dessert IMO.

i agree with the first response though, just because its there doesnt mean it has to be used.
