Bargain dinner in Manhattan?

We will be travelling to NYC 04-13 May. Whilst we have been to NYC on a number of occasions we have never explored the "bargain" side of dining there. Do any of you have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

  1. To get a reference point and just so you don't get steered into non-bargain dining, where did you eat at before in Manhattan?

We have been to EMP, Gramercy Tavern, Minetta Tavern, Babbo, Little Owl, Little Giant, Cafe Boulud, and Daniel.

Try Katz's Delicatessen, one sandwich is $14.00 but plenty for two...great for lunch or diner.

I thought it was more like $17. And I'd count tax and a tip to the counterman, at any rate. Not a bargain, but definitely a good value.

Katz's Pastrami on rye is $15.95, I shared one with my husband this morning.

You might want to try the outer boroughs...In Queens , great Thai food @ ShriPaPhi...or Cafe LaFlor for a great mexican breakfast ..both in Woodside...about 20 minutes by train/subway from Grand Central Station

Mee Noodles. There are 3 or 4 of them in Manhattan.

        3. Search this board for the numerous recs in Chinatown. Plenty of great deals, you can eat well for about $10/person.

          1. Have a look at New York magazine's Cheap Eats information:
