Columbus Ave, right near the AMNH has a number of brunch options, Any of them are really fine and would be better than eating inside the museum. The famous Upper West Side brunches, at Sarabeths or Good Enough To Eat and a few others do tend to get lines but more at noon than 10AM

      How early is early?

Sunday brunch on the UWS is usually madness. But if you're eating before 10am you shouldn't have too long of a wait... That is, if you're eating somewhere that is actually open at 8am or 9am. Maybe Sarabeth's.

There's a new restaurant at the New York Historical Society (just across the street from AMNH) that's supposed to be excellent. They may serve brunch on weekends.
