Coffee and lunch near Dia Beacon?

  • 8

Can anyone recommend a good coffee shop or place to stop for coffee near the Dia Beacon?

Also, I've read some good things on this board about Poppy's on Main St. Is that my best option for lunch near the museum?

Many thanks in advance.

  1. I love Homespun Foods. Nothing fancy, but high quality, delicious food (and coffee) made and served by friendly people.

    1. Homespun Foods is great. Crumb has some nice sandwiches and pastries as well. If you want something more filling, I definitely recommend Poppy's. That way you can get a great burger and grab a paleta from Zora Dora across the street afterwards. Seoul Kitchen has a small selection, but their food is good too.

Thanks. Is Zora Dora a better option than Jane's Ice Cream?

Yes, definitely. You can get Jane's Ice Cream at several locations (http://www.janesicecream.com/index.ph...), but there's only one Zora Dora. Their paletas are fantastic. I'm partial to their Lemon Garden Party (lemon and herbs) and Chocolate Framboise Truffle paletas.

      2. I would say yes since I'm a huge fan of Poppy's. And I agree with the Zora Dora rec, their popsicles are very unique with interesting flavors, whereas while Jane's Ice Cream is good, you can find it in a few locations, more typical flavors, etc.

        1. Poppys is awesome!! Headed there right now in fact!

          1. Thank you for all your great recommendations. I spent a lovely day up in Beacon, visiting the remarkable Dia, stopping for a bracing cup of excellent coffee at Bank Square Coffeehouse on Main St. and later visiting Homespun Foods for a lunch on their back patio, a wonderful spot to enjoy the balmy weather. I can strongly recommend the sizable curry turkey salad with apples and cashews, which stood out to me aside a handful of rather pedestrian-looking sandwiches. Before skipping town, I stopped at Zora Dora and for a heavenly lemon poppy paleta. Those of you Manhattanites searching for a good day trip from the city, look no further than Beacon. I'll be back.

            1. I'm looking for a great pastry shop/baked sweets in Beacon. Any favorites?
