Mio Posto (Saratoga Springs)

financialdistrictresident Apr 19, 2012 06:04 PM

Had dinner at Mio Posto (in the former Lanci, 8 Tables, Sangwych location) recently.

Warm, fresh bread and a white bean dip arrived after a tasting of risotto and ramps. I had chicken livers with crispy peas and demi, grouper with tomato ? and asparagus risotto. Very good. Coffee and cherry gelato for dessert.

It's BYOW for now.

SO will like it, especially BYOW and French press.

Went back recently. SO and his dining companion had the tasting menu. I arrived late and had a taste of his salad. I had the pan seared scallops, lobster risotto with asparagus and blood orange burro as my entree. Delicious.

I don't remember if we had gelato. They get their gelato from Gina (Appian Way in Schenectady - only place I have found fig gelato in the Capital District).

SO said this is one of the best meals he's had in Saratoga (I'm behind in my posts and don't remember the courses they had).

I can't wait to go back. Might have to wait until September. Even with 3 seatings I have a feeling it will be tough to get a reservation here during Track Season.

I've bee there twice and everything was perfect: chicken livers, figs and gorgonzola, chicken with ehggplant and prosciutto, rigatoni, pork cheeks, salmon--all wonderful.

It's become one of our favorites, with 9 Maple just down the block for a pre-dinner cocktail. Mio Posto maintains some of the pleasant vibe that the Lancis brought to the space, and the food has been very good.

Mio Posto is scheduled to be reviewed in the Albany Times Union tomorrow (July 15). The food reviewer for the TU is Cheryl Clark, who was part of the husband/wife duo who ran the very well rated Chez Sophie in Saratoga. She obviously knows the restaurant business in and out, and is a very knowledgeable critic. Might be worth a look to see what she says. Albany Times Union does have a web site.

Thanks, trakman. I'll watch for it. I remember about this time one of their reviewers decided to make Dine (now closed) a scapegoat for restaurant prices during Track Season.

Do you think it will also be posted on Steve Barne's blog?

It is indeed in Steve Barnes' blog today. 3 1/2 stars.

Been back a few more times. Dining companions had the veal chop. The menu is a little challenging for me since I only eat poultry and fish. I've had the scallops a few times. It's better for meat eaters. That said, I just save my calories for dessert and leave happy.

When I went back in August I had fish, it was either halibut or swordfish, either way it was so delicious. The fig/gorgonzola/prosciutto was also wonderful. It's the same family who owned Lanci's and I liked the place then also.

It is not owned by the Lanci's. It's the Petrosino's.

I really don't know the backstory but the waiter who served us told us it was the same family who had Lanci's. Could they all be related somehow?

went back this past saturday for my wife's birthday. another excellent meal. here's how it went.

we split a small salad to start. arugula with golden beets, goat cheese and pistachios.

for apps, i had the ba da bing shrimp and my wife had the grilled octopus. both were really nice. the shrimp is kind of a creamy scampi.

for my main i had grilled tuna with a roasted corn and olive salsa with sauteed spinach, roasted potatoes and pearl onions. my wife had the seared scallops with lobster risotto, a blood orange butter sauce and asparagus. both dishes were excellent.

for dessert i had the amazing coconut cream pie and she had the flourless chocolate cake. both were yummy.

all in all, i can see why this place continues getting rave reviews.
