What did you have for breakfast today? I'll start: a piece of homemade bread, toasted, with butter, andsome strawberries.

    I had dim sum yesterday and today for what is my breakfast/lunch. YUM!!!!

      Had a great father's day breakfast. Used yellow beet tops/stems which were braised with an onion until tender. Hit it with a little sherry vinegar and a little red pepper flakes as well as salt and pepper then diced a tomato and added it near the end until it softened a bit.

      Made a fried egg with a runny yolk which sat on top of the greens and topped with shavings of a firm goat cheese. A warm naan on the side.

          6:45am at a McDonald's at a rest stop on I-95, was way too early meeting someone, and ended up waiting for an hour. Even an iPhone only keeps you busy for so long, especially when you're on 4 1/2 hours sleep and no coffee. I went in just to get coffee- which was AWFUL- but ended up also getting an order of cinnamon melts which were just downright evil. Sweet in the morning is not my norm, but oh.my.god. Never had them before- I ate every bite.

          Then at 9:30, met friends at the diner for 2 eggs over easy on top of 1 slice of buttered white toast, 2 slices of very crispy bacon (I think it was deep fried), well done home fries and OJ. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way home for a large french vanilla with a caramel flavor shot with cream and sugar for me and large regular for DH.

              For better or worse, I had 2 giant homemade chocolate chip cookies--with coffee.

              (Since it is now summer, I will not be baking anymore.. so I guess the cookies were celebrating the end of baking for a many months.)

                Today was a good day. I had my usual pedestrian breakfast: fried egg, cheese and bacon wrap. And of course, Pepsi, coffee and ice water. Then off to the Farmer's Market where I got the most amazing pan au chocolat from a local French bakery--flaky, buttery pastry with a rich dark chocolate inside. And more coffee.

                I also picked up a baguette at this same stand and a local farmer's garlic and chive cheese and salted butter. (These items will appear in the lunch thread.) I picked up some fruit as well, but they did not figure into today's meals.

                  Oooooh pain au chocolat. Sometimes when I'm really really craving one I'll just shove squares of chocolate into a warm brioche or croissant, but that's really not the same.
                  I was able to get a duck at a local market this week, and what was left was turned into duck hash, w/ diced red potatoes and white onion, fried until crunchy in duck fat. Topped that off with poached eggs, and washed it all down w/ the proverbial Pepsi cola, which did indeed hit the spot. :)

                    Duck hash fried crunchy . . . sounds wonderful. There was no duck at the market this morning, but I did score some great beef. (And some scallions I suspect are on steroids :) You have me thinking back to a duck and ramp dish I had a few years back in Cape May.

                    And yes, the pan au chocolat was divine on a beautiful Saturday morning. The owner is not only a French-trained baker, but a choclatier as well. Is it next Saturday yet?

                  Today was cottage cheese topped w/ sliced strawberries, banana, and peaches.

                  Yesterday I made a delicious scramble: sauteed diced onion and diced kielbasa, then folded in a bunch of fresh baby spinach until just wilted, seasoned with garlic powder and pepper, then added several eggs whisked with s&p and a scoop of cottage cheese and cooked until set. It was great.

                                  This morning for breakfast I had seventeen (17!) colossal shrimp. Should have taken them out of the simmering water at three minutes instead of four because they ended up a bit overdone to my liking. But with a lovely dipping sauce made with 1/4 cup of organic ketchup and 1/2 cup of prepared horseradish with the juice of half a lemon, I managed to devour them all. Toast and fresh strawberries to keep them company. Hey, a pink breakfast! And of course, a mug of espresso! All enjoyed to the joyful noise of Ben Webster, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, and guys like that... Life is good! Convention sucks! '-)

                                      Okay, I think it is time for someone to start another thread.....

                                      Today was two eggs scrambled with homeground pork sausage with fennel pollen....homemade smoked cheddar cheese....green onion tops and the blackest of black Seattle coffee. BTW if my coffee supplier goes public...I will post it to chow and let you buy it...fabulous stuff.....
                                      Mmmm,,,, it was a good one. AND.....thank you to Caroline1...inspiration.....I am doing that tomorrow :)

                                        At 4:45 I had 1 slice of 7 grain toast with almond butter and bonne maman mandarin preserves. 45 Minutes later, I went on a half hour run. Then, at 7:30, Breakfast was Roman Meal cream of rye, made with half water and half almond milk (unsweetened). Just recently discovered this hot cereal and LOVE it. It's perfect to make a savory breakfast cereal from. Sweet doesn't really go too well with it...Today I made it with an organic egg, beaten and added to the 'meal' a little before it finished cooking, <1tsp flaxseed meal, sprinkle of shaved parmesan, crumbled some dried nori (seaweed) in there, salt, cracked black pepper, all mixed together, and topped off with a light spreading of Kerrygold garlic and herb butter (the herbs in this butter I believe are chives, parsley and dill and paprika as well). Best word I can use to describe this breakfast (besides delicious) is DEEP. TRY IT. Dessert was a handful of really good blueberries and a slice of really good cantaloupe.

                                              not very exciting, but tasty and satisfying breakfast this morning - a tortilla factory whole wheat flatbread, lightly toasted, egg substitute scrambled with some jimmy dean turkey sausage layered on the flatbread with a slice of soy cheese, as well as a big cuppa joe.

                                                Yesterday: Vidalia onion and homemade puff pastry tart, strawberries, poached egg. Vitamins.
                                                Today: Banana-nut-coconut bread, smoothie, blueberries, egg on toasted struan. Vitamins.

                                                Today for breakfast I made me some Wavy Juevos Rancheros! How do you make wavy juevos? Well, you fry them in a wavy bottomed grill pan, of course! But I'm just funnin' ya on that part. After the tortillas were softened and crisped just a little around the edges, I topped them with a bright eyed pair of sunny side up juevos. Then I cranked up the skillet to hot and poured in a generous cupful of store bought salsa. In this case, Jerdez' Salsa Casera. Added a bit of cumin and garlic powder to round out the flavor and reduced it all to a pulpy, tomatoey mass that was spread over the bright orange sunshiny eyes of my eggs until only a tiny bit of the whites were still visible. A dollop or two of Crema Mexican followed by a shower of Cotijo and a sprinkle of chopped chives. Garnish the plate with a fork and serve with my standard steaming mug of fresh espresso. ¡Desayuno para los dioses!

                                                          Have you tried Pepsi Throwback (that's the one made with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup)? That is usually my Pepsi go-to if I am craving one. I really like the taste of the Throwback kind when it's ice cold.

                                                              I have tried it and I love it but it's really hard to find around here. My big excitement is finding full sugar Mexican Coca-cola every now and then. Wish the Throwback were more widely available.

                                                                Aren't there any full-scale Hispanic Supermercado places around Berkeley? Mexi-Coke should be a staple, always available, in such places... In Indy, the Guanajuato Supermercado places would *always* have Mexi-Coke in the curvy glass bottles and with real sugar in it.

                                                                  huiray, I've looked. The larger markets (and yes, they are legion!) do not carry it here. I've been fortunate enough to find a few taco trucks that do, though, and I always stock up there.

                                                                      Wow, even in Minnesota most decent sized supermarkets have Mexican coke along with actual Mexican soft drinks. I suppose it's because we have a significant Hispanic population in the Twin Cities.

                                                                      For breakfast today it was cherry yogurt and a cherry-cream cheese toaster strudel.

                                                                        Hey John, I didn't know you were in the TC area!! My family goes wayyyy back there!! I didn't look at the markets there, because in college I didn't know the first thing about Mexican Coca cola (back in the day, were they already sweetened with HFCS, or is that a new-ish development?)
                                                                        Yeah, we've a HUGE South American population here, so it is suprising. But the taco truck owner I asked about it said that he meets his parents in Baja once a month to pick up supplies and ingredients that they bring over for him. So, I dunno what's up with that. Wish it was different, but hey, then I wouldn't have an excuse, not that I really need one, to go eat the best carnitas in the known universe.

                                                                          What we don't really have here are taco trucks. Within the last two years both Minneapolis and St. Paul changed their city ordinances to allow food trucks and I suppose some of them might have tacos but I don't think they exclusively sell Mexican food. I know one of them features a decent lobster roll. I bet a statement like that would make a New Englander get a little uppity.

                                                                    Costco has Mexican Coke for a good price...I think 16 bottles for roughly around $1.50 per bottle. As far as finding Pepsi Throwback it is pretty difficult here to find it on the East Coast, too...a few of the grocery chains are only carrying it in now in 12/24 cans per pack instead of the 2 liter bottles.

Hmmmmm it will be a GREAT day if it does. Not enough to "turn" me from my Pepsi Forever love, but a great day nonetheless. Sometimes, nothing else will do. :)

                                                                    A can of cream of mushroom soup (heated with the requisite can of water) and toast with shredded mozzarella melted in the oven. Diet 7up over ice. A sliver f cheesecake rounded out my morning.

                                                                    A waffle with peanut butter and a smoothie with banana, yogurt, milk and Ovaltine.

                                                                    Sometimes I sub the Ovaltine for macha; the banana for blueberries or mango but only with the macha - I'm not sure how those other fruits would go with Ovaltine (going to have to try them one of these days!).

                                                                        DH's plain homemade yogurt (this batch was really good---he used Liberté as the starter, and it turned out much better than with Stoneyfield organic), topped with bananas, farmer's market yellow peaches, blueberries, and a sprinkle of Uncle Sam's cereal (great as mueslix).                                                                                 For last years holiday season, I was gifted with a bag of wild rice. It's a grain (I know, seed) that I don't frequently use, and then almost always as part of a blend, for a side or main dish. But I've been wanting to incorporate some different ways with it, and the other day I found a recipe for Mahnomin, which is a Native American porridge, generally served for breakfast. I cooked a mixture of the wild rice with some short-grain I had on hand, adding the short-grain after the wild had cooked for about 25 minutes.cooking it down with orange juice, and added dried cranberries, toasted hazelnuts, prunes and snipped dried apricots at the last, wth a little brown sugar and a splash of heavy cream. I liked it; it really worked as a breakfast cereal. Next time, I'll try cooking it with coconut milk, and add some cinnamon and nutmeg, and brown sugar and dried figs or dates. So anyhoo, to make long story longer, the Mahnomin and two pieces of oatmeal bread, toasted, with apple buttter, a side of bacon and a LOT of coffee. Ah, sustenance!!

                                                                                    If it's a Kellog's mix, I haven't seen it - or maybe you were joking?
                                                                                    This is four very generous servings. You can play around with it - a lot of people make it with maple syrup and blueberries, and I can't really think of a dried fruit or nuts that wouldn't work with this.
                                                                                    3/4 c. wild rice, rinsed well
                                                                                    3 c. orange juice
                                                                                    3/4 c. short-grain rice, rinsed well
                                                                                    good dash salt
                                                                                    1 c. half-and-half, heavy cream, top milk or whole milk
                                                                                    1/4 c. toasted hazelnuts
                                                                                    1/4 c. dried apricots, snipped
                                                                                    1/4 c. prunes, snipped
                                                                                    1/4 c. craisins, dried blueberries, dried strawberries...your choice.Dates would be great with this, especially with bananas, maple syrup and walnuts...
                                                                                    Brown sugar, maple syrup, agave syrup....any sweetener of choice.
                                                                                    Bring juice and wild rice to boil; cover and turn down to simmer. After it has cooked 25 minutes, add rinsed short-grain rice to pot, and bring to boil again. Add salt; cover and simmer 20 more minutes. Check to make sure all rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. If not, let simmer until tender. Divide rice between bowls and top with cream and rest of fruit toppings and sweetener of choice.

                                                                                    Mahnomen (the usual spelling in Minnesota) is the Ojibwa word for wild rice. My maternal grandfather (100% Swede) used to gather wild rice in a canoe, parch it (roasting in a big cast iron kettle over a wood fire), winnow it (separating the chaff from the grain) and that was a substantial part of my mother's family's food for the year during the Depression.

                                                                                    A few years ago I started to make a hot breakfast cereal out of whole grains such as oats, barley, rye, red wheat, spelt, and buckwheat. I would put all those whole grains into a crockpot on high for a couple hours with water and salt and later I would add already cooked wild rice, dried cranberries, raisins and toasted walnuts or hazelnuts. If I added the wild rice uncooked the result was a bit 'muddy' so I added it already cooked.

                                                                                    This morning however, I had three of my nephews staying with us and so I made them my version of sausage mcmuffin with egg. I bought a bunch of hoagie rolls from a bakery outlet for $.10 each so I toasted them, with a venison sausage patty, fried egg and slice of cheddar cheese. I made a bunch of them in advance and kept them warm in the oven so it was just like McDonald's ; )

                                                                                      No time for food this morning so my first meal is now, at 1:15 pm. Raided the freezer and found some frozen French fries and breaded fish fillets. Threw them into the oven and had those with diet coke over ice. Dinner will be better...I hope!

                                                                                            Thinly sliced sirloin premarinated with sesame oil, Shaohshing wine, light soy sauce, cornstarch, ground white pepper. Chopped Chinese chive flowers & stalks, sautéed w/ peanut oil, beef added, followed by chopped Western celery hearts, tossed & stirred, two-day-old rice added, tossed & stirred, julienned green onions added, heat turned off, mixture tossed & stirred & served.
                                                                                            Eaten with pickled chopped long hot green chile peppers.

                                                                                              Your leftovers are the only ones I could reasonably serve my kids over and over again and not get hit with those sad, "not this again?" look. Rough life you got there buddy.

                                                                                              My (only, today) morning meal: The usual suspects, Bustelo with steamed milk, and Pepsi w/ crushed to accompany a classic plate: 2 eggs, over medium; 1 banger, and some leftover mashed potatoes.                                                                                                   To a (wo)man, they are all actively pursuing their CH cred. Daughter has some dietary challenges due to Crohn's, but #2 son is:
                                                                                                  A. Taking a class in breads at the local JC
                                                                                                  B. Building a pizza oven in his "backyard." (roughly 8by8.)
                                                                                                  C. Brewing yet more noxious beer. Not that we don't like beer and all, but kiddo gets
                                                                                                  SUPER-creative. Smoked fig beer, anybody? (No, thanks....)
                                                                                                  D. Trying to figure out a recipe that incorporates smoked trout and blue cheese, which
                                                                                                  sounds completely horrifying, but hey....more power to the man!!

                                                                                                      So we opted to try a new burger place instead -- a good choice: a little under a quarter lb. patty, fairly thin *yet* cooked medium-rare (that was rather impressive), smothered in cheddar, with good-sized buns. Freshly fried potato wedges on the side with housemade sauces: mayo, ketchup and peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was the only loser on the plate. Wedge portion was massive.

                                                                                                      I reckon there will be rather light dinner. But that's for another thread :-)

                                                                                                              For breakfast today I had grilled cheese (gouda) made in the toaster, some watermelon and papaya, followed by a piece or orange flavored dark chocolate (Green & Black brand)
                                                                                                              For the grilled cheese: rip off an edge of one of the smaller pita breads so that you have access to the pocket, layer in cheese slices (careful not to puncture the bread!) and place in the toaster ripped side up. Delicious sandwich with no mess and no clean up!

                                                                                                                            Just one beaten egg thrown into a hot skillet with butter. Tilt the pan here and there to rearrange the uncooked parts, but don't scramble or stir it. Remove it from the heat after a bit and stick a lid on it to finish cooking it - I just put my tea kettle on top. A quick egg that tastes a bit different and can be rolled, filled, put in a breakfast sandwich, whatever. Part of my breakfast every day when I had to be out of the house early. Simple and good.

                                                                                                                                                      I am enjoying the very rambunctious kittehs, who have apparently taken up a new form of play and exercise: flying at night. All of them. Magical things happen in this household when nobody's awake. Magical things like mirrors coming off the walls and books being tumbled from the shelves. In fact so magical that once again I was tumbled out of bed at 4 a.m. Good thing I go to bed pretty early.
                                                                                                                                                      So anyway, it's firstmeal time. I'm doing the Major Dickason's Blend: good strong coffee from Peets, with heavy cream and brown sugar, and half a blueberry muffin. Pepsi and normal savory bkf. description to follow, since I really have no idea what it's going to be. I just felt like weighing in. :)

                                                                                                                                                                              "Babi pongteh" is a classic Nyonya (Peranakan) dish consisting of pork belly pieces braised with salted slightly fermented soy bean (*not* black bean) paste, shallots (not ordinary onions), garlic, thick/black soy sauce and a bit of sugar. There are several (but simple) steps in the prep; they are not simply chucked together.

                                                                                                                                                                              Do a Google search for the terms "babi pongteh"; and also "nyonya" or "peranakan" – the answers (and recipes) that pop up will illustrate this more.

I love the way you eat. I recall seeing an article on Nyonya (they spelled it Nonya) cuisine a few years back, in Gourmet, and it was for a pork belly dish too, I do believe.
                                                                                                                                                                                Had to laugh at the Google comment - and I do know that it wasn't a barb. It occurred to me after I asked you that I could have Googled it, but you see, it's ever so early and I'm ever so old, and it's Monday and shit, and words like "Google" make no sense to me until I'm fully on top of the day.                                                                                                                                                                                   Hmm, interesting - about Gourmet doing that piece on Nyonya food. (The correct term is indeed the one with two "y"s in it) I wonder if that dish was this one or another similar classic one, like "Babi Chin", which has aromatic spices in it (cloves, cinnamon, and particularly coriander) whereas "Babi Pongteh" does not.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Because we have been making ice cream during the last week we had about ten egg whites in the refrigerator. Since I'm not a big baker and angel food cake isn't a favorite either, I added three whole eggs and made a big mess 'o lightly scrambled eggs. We also had sausage patties. Someone forgot to get bread out of the freezer so we didn't even have toast. We did however have watermelon and strawberries. (Never again am I going to buy a watermelon in May. It just wasn't the same ripeness or 'watermeloniness' as an August or September watermelon).

                                                                                                                                                                                    Huuuuuuge homemade brunch today because I was just starving. Sourdough French toast, butter and maple syrup, 4 bacon strips done nice and crispy, hashbrowns (Shredded. They must always be shredded) that came out nice and crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and two poached eggs on top of the potatoes. Mixed blood oj and pineapple juice, and strong Cafe Bustelo with steamed milk - nothing better. Great start to a great day. At least, once I could move it was. : )

                                                                                                                                                                                      Y'know, I haven't had one of these in a long while. Bacon & eggs & other fixings, that is. Sausages too, maybe. Yum, burp. I tend to skip the bread/toast (not much of a bread eater) but might go for fresh baguette pieces. Pan-fried tomato halves, sautéed mushrooms, pan-fried potatoes; plus some sort of other veggie - sautéed zucchini or asparagus, e.g. (I'll skip the haddock or kippers and black pudding. :-) )

They start a new thread after 300 posts, I think

                                                                                                                                                                                      Anywho, for breakfast today I had coffee w/1/2&1/2, about 3/4 of a Fage 2% plain yogurt (the dog gets the other 1/4 with his kibble); a cup of Trader Joes fiber cereal and a banana.
                                                                                                                                                                                      Yesterday was steamed broccoli sautéed in a bit of butter with garlic and a piece of grilled chicken.
                                                                                                                                                                                      And about 6 cups of water – every morning.

Started with det ginger ake over ice. Then pineapple chunks and sliced oranges and grapefruit with large curd cottage cheese. And a Chobani peach yogurt.
                                                                                                                                                                                          I also put some cheese on leftover challah and baked it the oven. Forgot about it so it got a little extra toasty. But damn, it was good!
                                                                                                                                                                                          Plus more ginger ale over ice. And I ate the ice, too! :)

Coffee, Pepsi, ice water. And to make Mamachef not cringe, a Marlboro Light (I don't usually include that fact as it's not really food; but it does complete the meal).

                                                                                                                                                                                              Opened the sliding door to let the cats out on the screened in porch and then forgot to feed them. They starved until noon (but were so happy outside watching the squirrels and birds, they didn't seem to mind).

                                                                                                                                                                                                  I don't think it's regional, as I know some of the posters who mention it are left coast and I am right coast. I wouldn't even say generational as I have friends whose parents (70s-80s) include it. I don't even think it's genetic as my sisters are morning tea drinkers, my parents were morning OJ/coffee people. I suspect it's a matter of non-morning people who need lots of caffeine and sugar to get started, but dislike the taste of coffee with sugar.

                                                                                                                                                                                                    The cats having been duly fed, I am presently working on "firstmeal," the coffee portion of the morning. Today, it's extra-strong Bustelo Cafe, made half-and-half with steamed whole milk. This lovely concoction is goin' down the hatch with half a bran muffin from a gargantuan batch of batter that I turned out and which reportedly will just hang out sulking in the fridge until I can get it fully used up. We'll see. I'm a little sick of these things already and may have to make a batch for neighbor gifts, and then they can be the ones who are sick of them. ; )

                                                                                                                                                                                                          Being left with several cups of Jasmine rice from last night, and not being of a mind that allows me to comfortably waste even the most basic of foodstuffs (to do that I have to purposely shove it to the back of the fridge to grow....stuffff on it...), I sauteed two strips bacon with some garlic and onion and then scrambled it with two eggs and mixed it all into the rice that I'd given a brief turn in the skillet with a tot of sesame oil. Insta-fried rice. Not as vegetal-full as a planned recipe, but with my omnipresent Pepsi over crushed, a very very fine substitute.
                                                                                                                                                                                                          Now, onto my incredibly horrible "Pepsi in the morning" habit, greatly frowned upon by everyone in my life......

No secret there. : ) I do coffee very early on - like, within 5 minutes of waking up and finding the kitchen again - have to feed the cats first, of course - but oh, that first hot slug of creamy sweet extremely strong caffeinated goodness....
                                                                                                                                                                                                              Anyway, my point was that I have to have the coffee first, so I can get on with the heavy-duty shit, like powering up the 'puter and washing my face. And then, like an hour later, I'm primed for the bubbly, jaw clenching deliciousness, that icy-cold cola goodness.
                                                                                                                                                                                                              Yay us. : )

I'm the proud owner of The Amazing MomKat, who developed a habit of noodging her way into my bedroom at 5 a.m. on a daily basis, and jumping on my head. It was really messing with me, and she could get in no matter what I used to wedge the door shut. I finally installed a fisheye lock - I'm being serious here -and now she lies outside the bedroom door in silent wait. As soon as I get up, she's winding around my ankles and purring and "escorting" me to the kitchen - and I feed her first to get her the hell off my freakin' back so I can get mine.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Fully caffeinated...absolute first step to accomplish in the morning....have been known to just put the un opened can of food in the bowl, put oatmeal in the drip coffee pot & sit there in a stupor. Learned since then to NOT tackle anything except putting the coffee on...anything else attempted would only result in a disaster.

I was baking for my friend's engagement party which was cancelled, as was her engagement. Thank G-d! Most stuff is in the freezer for another time but last night I made these pumpkin oatmeal cookies...which were breakfast today. With diet root beer straight out of the 0 oz bottle. Too damn lazy to bother with a glass.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I spent the last week in Brooklyn (I live in Los Angeles) and had a veggie and cheese omelet with hash browns and diet coe every morning at a little hole in the wall diner that hasn't changed it's decor or menu since I was first there in 1987 when I was very young. It's always crowded and the food fresh. I sure miss NY!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Right this second I'm working my way through a cup of Major Dickason's blend coffee with heavy cream and sugar. I'm also enjoying a nice, tasteful cigarette and waiting for some Tylenol to work. When it does work, I plan on eating some nice crispy corned beef hash, two poached eggs, and a buttered English muffin. I think it will be grapefruit juice this morning, or maybe pineapple-orange. And of course more coffee. There must always be more coffee, and more after that.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Today I had 3 mini-muffins I baked last night (ok, from a mix, but it was Hodgson Mills' organic!), they were blueberry with flaxseed. They were *just* this side of being edible and not like eating sawdust. I made them for my toddler's lunches but I'm not sure he's going to want them unless I cut them in half and slather them with butter and jam. Hmm, now there's an idea.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Hodgson Mills - been eyeing those for quite some time, along with some other healthy mixes & you just pushed me back off the fence. I have never had luck with any of the boxed mixes, but the buzz word is "organic" & I think, "well maybe this time it will taste good." Hate to say it, but you saved me a few bucks, so sorry you were the guinea pig in this.

Trying this version for the first time, it wasn't very good to me. I won't be buying this one again.

The spicy chicken isn't bad, but then again it's not good. (Perhaps I need to raise the bar - things in my life tend to follow that pattern... : )
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Anyhoo, speaking of the noodles, texturally they're not bad at all. It's my go-to if I have absolutely no other alternative - like, my car's blocked by 2 garbage trucks at the 7-11 and I have only 20 minutes for lunch. : )

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      As far as those various Nong Shim Bowls go, I actually kind-of like the classic kimchi version - but boy, what a salt bomb it is if one uses the whole seasoning packet. (But it's baaad salty tasty when one is in the mood!!)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Due to an attack of insomnia, I'm eating First Breakfast of the day, consisting of some warm milk with honey and a wheat tortilla with sharp cheddar. When I hopefully sleep that off, I have plans w/ a girlfriend to go get green chile and pepper Jack omelettes w/ a side of Chorizo. Add a big fresh OJ for me and probably some coffee, and that should definitely do till dinner.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Mamachef, glad I saw you here. Wanted to thank you for telling me how to bake a potato- rub all over with olive oil & then rub sea salt on & bake in oven. I had one cold one left over, sliced it very thin, browned it in a hot skillet with a little olive oil & then added soft scrambled eggs & chopped green onion for breakfast. Oh yes, I left the skin on, most delicious. Did not know baking this way would make such a difference in taste, but it sure does.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Breakfast sounds great. Another goodie is to make 4 large ones extra, and the next morning dice them into 1" cubes., put in large bowl, and toss with diced red onions, crumbled feta, halved cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives. Salt and pepper to taste, and dress with good olive oil and the vinegar of your choice. -- if you like oregano, toss in a T. or so of fresh minced.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                It's the skins left on that makes this salad, but do be really careful about adding, because the Feta is salty too.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Today, leftover chocolate chip banana bread and English breakfast tea. Twas a lazy Sunday morning and unfortunately was not able to visit my mama, as she lives a 5-hour drive away and I had to work this weekend.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              For tomorrow -- I do have some Liberte yogurt in the fridge that needs eating, although I'm not usually a weekday breakfast person.

With sausage and tomato gravy, cheese eggs and some banana/strawberry mix, while working at our Master Gardener annual plant sale this morning. Then had a sausage-cheese egg biscuit for lunch that they had made up with the leftovers from breakfast.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              One of our MGs makes the absolute best tomato gravy and his scrambled eggs/ cheese eggs are the most delicious and the most perfect texture of any I have ever eaten. I told his wife I'd marry him for his eggs, that's how good they are.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Some things you just don't make at home when you know someone who does it perfectly. He did tell me that the tomato gravy is canned tomatoes added to his regular (homemade) sausage gravy. When he was telling me how to make it, I told him no, I only want to eat his, I don't want to make my own because it would never be as good.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              One great thing about gardeners is that so many of them are also talented cooks.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Sausage & tomato gravy, now you go right back to back to that man & tell him you have reconsidered & you can not possibly live without that tomato gravy reciipe any longer.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I have been searching for years for that elusive lavor in tomato gravy & whenever I hear someone speaking about it, I go crazy. Please, please get the recipe!!!!

I haven't tried these before, I think they're new.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  I'm still debating about the ingredients for my pizza, I found a new soy cheese this week, so that will definately be on there. I'm partial to scrambled eggs and sausage on my breakfast pizza... or bacon. very tempted by someones pizza upthread where they cracked the eggs right on top. I've never tried that. :)

Polenta dinner care of The Man, minus the short ribs.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            A sunny side up egg served over some the the leftover polenta, revived with a little milk and a few minutes on the stove, as well as the rich braising liquid, also warmed up.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Topped with some fresh thyme and grated parmesan.

I usually have some combination of a banana, yogurt, and a muffin, meaning I eat two out of the three depending on the ripeness of the bananas on hand, the variety of muffins on hand, and the flavor of yogurt on hand. It really sounds more complicated than it is. I can almost always make these decisions in under ten minutes.

Whoa. Touchy he was. I guess you must have privileges so that you can use that term? :-P :-D Or CH is not so "sensitive" which is all to the good. :-)

Had to settle for Korean knock-off SPAM, fried up with some yellow mustard and eaten with knife and fork.

Compared to SPAM it's half the size and twice as salty.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Pat Grapow Neua Sai Kai Daow (Stir Fried Beef and Holy Basil [with chilies]) [Pat = Stir-Fried, Grapow = Holy Basil)..... it is a very simple dish but one I very much like.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     so boring I could cry. 6 oz. Almond milk; 2 oz Fage 2% yoghurt; 1 1/2 c some kind of berry (lately has been strawberries that I picked) ; and 1/4 C. protein powder all powered in a blender to make (I hate this word) a "Smoothie". Ick and sob. I WANT a "mexican breakfast of Migas, peppers, bacon, hash browns; a flour tortilla the size of a semi's hubcap, 11 cups of strong coffee with splenda and crema and a soft-serve ice cream. Please, someone, come to my aid.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      This Sunday, around noon, while laying around, watching movies, still in my robe, I decided to go with a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I toasted a sandwich bun, fried up some thick slices of bacon, fried the egg over easy in the bacon fat. Put it all between the toasted bun with a slice of provolone, a couple shakes of Franks, and it was a delicious meal.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I love egg sandwiches.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Sunday breakfast: a 3 egg (from the farmer's market) omelet with mushrooms, red pepper, white american cheese and shredded colby. Sourdough (from the farmer's market) toast. Turkey bacon.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Homemade pear jam. OJ
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Then four hours in the garden finishing up building the last raised bed and planting it full of tomato plants for canning later in the summer. Hopefully I burned off all those breakfast calories!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        The nice thing about sending hubby to the Saturday morning farmer's market is that he just gets whatever looks good and doesn't worry about the cost. I am not a good impulse shopper, so he gets better goodies than I do!

Inwasntvfeeling well Frday night r yesterday so two were enough. And they just hit the spot. Oh, and several cups of diet Pepsi on ice!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A small six ounce glass of vegetable juice, tall glass of water, cup of hot black tea, vitamin, one aspirin, fried red potato smoked salmon hash, and a home-made breakfast burrito.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Salmon hash includes: one medium red potato cut in pieces steamed then browned in bacon grease. Add an equal part of smoked salmon with skin removed cut in chunks. Top with generous portion of flavored sour cream made with fine cut fresh chives more tasty by a few drops of Colgin brand liquid Mesquite smoke. I used Daisy-brand sour cream made only with cultured cream that tastes better compared to most others thickened with corn starch, etc.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Breakfast burrito made of: two 2" round frozen sausage patties heated then cut up (I rotate various sausage, bacon, ham, ... ), one egg fried in bacon grease (yolk broke mixed into whites flipped sliced in strips), with grated sharp cheddar cheese this time, pinch of kosher less salty while big flakes, bit of fresh ground black pepper, and few spoons of home made salsa. Rolled in a Calidad-brand soft flour taco tortilla warmed by pre-heated cast iron until air expands making tortilla bubbles flexible soft not cooked until crispy (crepe texture this way I get a pack of 30 for $3 at Winco or Grocery Outlet).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Salsa is: canned whole 28oz tomatoes pulsed in a blender with juice to desired chunkiness, chopped Bermuda red onion, habanero hot chili powder, smoky paprika, fresh lime juice, cumin, fresh cilantro because like, touch of vinegar, a little dash of sugar, enough fine cubes of serrano chilies knife-cut small for desired heat, season to taste. I add another layer of flavor with my own grind of 11 hot peppers some smoked dry. Let sit then taste. Add sweet if too hot. Add hot if too sweet. Often best after resting at least 24 hours to mingle. Is best with no added salt as a general rule as find the vegetables will stay fresher longer so seems to keep better without salt. While does not last long here. Taste and tune as mingles if needed. Great addition on all kinds of mexican food, egg dishes, salads, burgers, dogs, and even soups.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Now making a favorite Mexican meat stew to use up remaining salsa. Slow cooked steamed all day until tender and tasty. For dinner tonight and fast meals this week. Started with several pounds of on sale beef roast trimmed then cut into bite-size pieces. Browned outside in a little bacon grease. Added fine chopped red onion, fresh garlic, local honey, salsa, and one small can chipotle peppers the adobo sauce. Is transforming into bubbly goodness now by a lid-on low simmer. If take lid off would reduce, concentrate, and thicken. If too thick can add a little water to thin. Good alone in a bowl. Very nice over long grain brown rice, noodles, with / on salad, or with potatoes. Thick so more concentrated makes most heavenly beef burritos. Also use other meats like boneless skinless chicken breast, ground beef, and pork loin or even mix meats. Will eat all desire today. Let cool to almost room temp then roll extra stew meat in tortillas then rolled in non-BPA Saran plastic wrap put in non-BPA Ziploc gallon freezer bags. When cook go big to make time later. Frozen burritos with beans or chili also taste great weeks later this way.

Never heat bacon fat above its 370 degree Fahrenheit. Is bacon fat's smoke point. Where it burns. Staying below that, I cook bacon in the oven set at 330 for 20-35 minutes depending on thickness combined with desired doneness. Drain mine on extra brown paper grocery bags. Can save bacon grease in a pint canning jar in fridge hand washed in hot water with soap between use. I like thick, drained, refrigerated and kept in the fridge to use for the next several days. If crave a BLT sandwich, wrap, or flat bread pizza. Maybe sprinkle a few tasty textured salty bits to top a salad, soup, potato dish, or something. Liquid smoke mentioned above is a great tasting simple to use substitute for bacon flavor in some soups, sauces, dips, and dressings.

Individually, I love all the ingredients anyway, and together they make just the perfect dog for my tastes.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I have to admit, I have never, ever been a chili dog, or chili cheese dog lover because they are just too heavy for me. I like a good hot dog with mustard and relish, or sauerkraut and swiss, but the 'dragged through the garden' dog will always be my favorite.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I wonder if being a salad lover has anything to do with it?

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Oh, and cacruden, you can't do a Chicago dog with a cheap hot dog! A Vienna or Hebrew National brand are all I've ever seen used. The flavor of those two brands is an important part of the dish. Just the thought of putting all those good veggies on a cheap hot dog just sounds icky. No thank you!

I was referring to a few television programs I have seen that focus on hotdogs. There was one such show on PBS a few years ago that I enjoyed except for the people on the program that were 'full of themself' about Chicago hotdogs.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              My opinion really has little to do with the actual Chicago Hotdog but with the over-the-top raving about Chicago Hotdogs. No food could live up to what is generally said about them. I really did not intend for my snarky, off-hand comment to generate much controversy, I just happen to believe they are over-rated, so much so that they could never live up to their billing.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Not sure I have eaten pizza in NY, I did have a craving for a Chicago style pizza last year (first time in 10 years) -- but Chicago style pizza is not that popular outside of Chicago area. I actually prefer a thin crust "italian style" pizza - fairly simple. I hope you are not bothered by my recent posts. While I am a little annoyed by the raving, I am mostly being facetious with my comments here. I have been to Chicago a couple of times but if I ever get there again I will make an attempt to get to Pizzeria Uno. I was in college the last time I was in Chicago and back then the only real destination was the Billy Goat Tavern.

Now if you insulted Toronto Hot Dogs, or Toronto pizza - that might be a different story :o Or worse yet, if you insult Thai food - you would be dead to me :o

Unless you've been born and raised in the Atlanta area, this is the not a good example of yummy hot dogs. The Varsity is all about the nostalgia, not about flavor or taste.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  However, the grilled pimento cheese sandwiches are worth the trip!

I'm sure you could come up with a couple of restaurants that qualify to my above posts, but then again the mods probably would frown on a thread going so far astray. (The place I was subtly referring to in the above post specializes in breakfast, particularly big caramel rolls to the travelers on I-35 driving to Duluth).

GREAT regional food and all the nostalgia you could ever hope for. My Grandpa's favorite booth was #5 and if he couldn't get it he'd change the reservation to another night. But oh, that chicken pie, that Walleye, the Prime Rib....nothing fancy, but the food has always been delicious, well-prepared and right to the point.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The Lexington has been sold 3 times in 5 years and I'm told the food is now close to how good it was in the old days. My original reference was about over-rated foods and over-rated restaurants more recently. I would not put The Lexington into that category anymore.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Oh, goodness, don't be afraid to ask! #5 is sort of "the place everyone wants to be," and my Grandpa was hugely socially concious. He wanted to see who was coming in so that he could get up and schmooze with them at the bar. The rest of the family would wait for him and wait for the food to be served and we could hear his voice, and his laugh, all the way at the table. He was never gone for long; he just loved people. Aw I miss him.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Actually, I was referring to the legend of the origins of the Chicago style dog being a depression era food (which should be appropriate for now), where you could not afford "real meat" so you would get processed hot dog meat and then top it with whatever is available (except ketchup). Nowadays - hot dogs are no longer cheap and the quality of them is likely considerably less. I actually like Chicago style dogs, but then I like all the ingredients individually as well. I find the sport pepper to be a little light in heat though so I might replace it with something with a wee bit more kick or add in sriracha sauce which is available on some carts in Toronto :p.

But luckily not that often. I did buy a jug of ocean spray cranberry cocktail once this year ... $10 and once for a small container of Ben and Jerry's $11.... But it is offset (and then some) by the cost of my Thai food .... I think if I were to buy cereal it would be Frosted Flakes....

It lasted at least two years, but once I got back to the States, I never even thought about them. The second time it was for a McDonald's original hamburger and didn't hit until a few weeks before we returned. First full day home I went to a McD's drive through and bought a bag of one dozen basic hamburgers -- the ones with the teensy weensy diced onions in them -- and went home and put them in the freezer. SECURITY BLANKET!

I love to mop up the yolk that squirts out the back end when I take the first bite. I've learned to hold it from the side until the squirt happens, else I have to lick all the yolk off my hand before I can go any further.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Hot decaf black tea. ( I know, what's the point with no caffeine, you say. Imagine drinking several Red Bulls first thing in the morning. That's what one cup of regular tea or coffee does to me.)

And OJ/water. DH made me a cup of Gunpowder tea. I ended up with the shakes an hour later.

It's so interesting to see all the different types of things that CHers have for breakfast. Other than lots and lots of coffee, there's not really a standard breakfast for all.

No! Wait! It was a fritatata. ermmmm... No. It was a crustless quiche. Well, whatever it was, in an 8" skillet, I first sauteed some onions doused with kosher salt in a tsp of olive oil, when they were sweated, I added some chopped red bell pepper, some chopped zucchini, and some chopped tomatoes (wishing I had some eggplant too) and seasoned again, then covered the pan and let them condense slowly to a rich pulpy veggie bed. Then I spread a loose layer of grated cheddar and grated mozzarella. Poured in enough well shaken Egg Beaters to fill the pan about 3/4 full. Put the lid back on it, reduced the heat to a low simmer and let it do its thing for about 23 minutes when it was well set. Turned it out onto a plate, cut myself a big piece and toasted some Oroweat Oat Nut bread to go with it. It was really good! And I have half left for lunch or whenever. And now I need to add more tomatoes and some eggplant to my menu. I feel a ratatouille coming on! '-)

I have been craving it for the past couple days! I was reading your description of your "egg creation of Spanish inspiration with possible Italian influence" and thinking ratatouille.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     For The Man, this rustic 2-egg omelette, cooked in bacon fat, and filled with tomato, shallot, spinach and arugula sauteed with rendered bacon, served on a bed of raw spinach and arugula, and topped with fresh tomatoes lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and drizzled with our specially nutty finishing olive oil.

Ended up buying two things, one which I often walked past but never ordered:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      First dish was likely called Khao Naa Mu (I made a similar dish but with duck), it is "Steamed Rice with Pork". What you see in the container is rice, pork which was boiled in a soup broth to cook, kale and pickled cabbage from the soup. The little dishes to the side have additional condiments to flavour the dish as well.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The second dish is "Gaeng Juad Wun Sen Moo Sub" which is basically glass noodle soup with soft tofu and pork.

Then poured in a good glug of EggBeaters and a handful of chopped parsley. Let it set for a bit then into the toaster oven on the upper level to brown and cook the top. Served on a tortilla.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Do you have a recipe for the masa Æbleskivers? Or do you just substitute masa for AP flour? I have a recipe that calls for jam or cooked apples as a filling but I have yet to try out the pan I bought a while back.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Here's the recipe. This one is a no-filling one, and I subbed just about half with Maseca, which is a finer, more processed masa harina. What they call "instant" masa, I think. I just happened to use milk + lemon juice because I had no buttermilk on hand, but if you do, I'm sure buttermilk would work just great! :)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        MASA EBELSKIVERS W. COCONUT MAPLE SYRUP

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        For the ebelskivers...

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 2 eggs, separated into whites and yolks
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1 cup All Purpose flour
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 3/4 cups Maseca (or other instant corn masa mix)
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 2 teaspoons baking powder
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1.5 Tablespoons sugar
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 4 Tablespoons butter, melted
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - additional butter for frying
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1+2/3 Cups whole milk mixed with 1.5 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice (this curdle the milk a bit - not to worry)
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        For the Coconut Maple Syrup...

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1.5 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 3 Tablespoons maple syrup
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - 1/4 Cup coconut cream (just the solids that rise to the top - not the milk, which is the solids and liquid mixed together)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        1) Into a large mixing bowl, sift the AP flour, masa, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        2) In a separate clean and completely dry glass or metal mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium until the whites hold a stiff peak and set aside.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        3) Melt the butter and add to the flour mixture, along with the milk/lemon juice, and using the electric mixer, mix all the wet and dry pancake ingredients except the egg whites together until smooth.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        4) Add the egg whites to the batter and gently fold them in until they're completely incorporated. Gently folding is really like stirring done slowly, one rotation at a time, with a sort of lifting motion at the end of each rotation that aerates the mixture and keeps it light and fluffy.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        5) Set the batter aside while you make the syrup. I find that ebelskiver batter, as do most pancake and crepe batters, benefits from a little resting period.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        6) In a small saucepan, combine all syrup ingredients and bring to very slow and gentle boil over medium heat. Once it reaches that boil, let it continue boiling at that heat for 30 seconds or so, stirring gently to incorporate all ingredients and to ensure that the salt has melted. And that's it! Cut the heat and set it aside to drizzle over your ebelskivers when they're done.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        7) Put a tiny dollop (about a centimeter cubed) into each ebelskiver pan well and place the pan over medium heat. When the butter starts to bubble, add enough batter to come almost completely up the side of the well - this is about 2 Tablespoons.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        8) When the sides start to bubble and brown, flip each ebelskiver with a couple of skewers or chopsticks or spoon ends or whatever you have that functions that way. And try to remember to flip them in the order in which you filled them! (It's like playing that takoyaki making video game - can't remember the name of it at the moment...)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        9) When both sides are cooked to a lovely golden brown and the ebelskiver just momentarily gives to a gentle press with your finger, they are ready to turn out of the pan, drizzle or dip with/in syrup, and enjoy! :)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Today I was hungry and forgot it was Monday (holiday for most street food vendors on my street) - went out to my street and ordered one of the first things I saw. Deep Fried Chicken with a spicy chili (Isan) sauce.... hesitated because I was disappointed and surprised.... they only had Chicken Breasts.... I guess all the good pieces of chicken were already bought :o I then turned the corner and walked a little.... should have waited.... but picked up a young coconut cracked open for drinking the coconut water....

Nuke for 3 min and pour into a travel mug as I walk out the door. We had early mass and no time for any real food.

A lot of times I don't eat anything special for breakfast, just what is available on my street (usually lazy in the morning) - so it would be Papaya Salad, or a Thai Stir Fry, or Yam Wun Sen (Glass Noodle Seafood Salad). Although I do like the Thai style breakfast a sort of Fish congee - which I will add Nam Prik ... fish sauce and chilies.... It is not on my street.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    When I lived in Toronto - if I had breakfast it would usually be a BLT bagel (butter - not mayo), when in London UK I would sometimes eat bacon on a bun with brown sauce (I do like brown sauce), in Costa Rica .... I absolutely loved the simple dish of black beans and rice (never made it though).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          From what I could understand, one of the keys is making it with leftover black beans and leftover rice from the previous days casados. Chop up white onion and red bell pepper (or green depending where in CR you are) and fry them in quite a bit of oil/lard. Add in cumin, coriander, stir til fragrant. Add in rice and black beans (with some of their liquid) and cook til all warm and incorporated. Serve with salsa lizano and hot chili sauce.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          I'm not sure of the spices.... they most likely add some more. Also, salsa lizano might be added into the mixture as well.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Beyond that.... anyone who knows more... help, please! :)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        One egg slightly beaten, poured into small skillet, covered with grated sharp Cheddar cheese, and quickly cooked into a mini-omelet which is then folded over twice and stuffed into a toasted 100% whole wheat English muffin, spread while hot with butter and a little Dijon mustard---then a couple of slices of bacon (which I had in refrig already cooked, just had to zap) added in. This makes a terrific breakfast sandwich.

Noticed folks eating avocado at breakfast...that's one in my weekly rotation usually a half with a spoonful of salsa where the pit was and just eat it with a spoon out of the skin.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      homemade hashbrown potatoes, fried egg, strip of bacon, wheat toast, apple slices and coffee.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        English Muffin, light schmear of cream cheese, 1/4 of an avocado mashed into it, lightly salted, a slice of red onion, slice of tomato and one chopped leaf of lettuce. And about an eight cup pot of coffee....but I had breakfast at 1:30

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            croissant, some fruit salad, a coffee with 2%. Then 1/2 a blueberry bagel cuz I was still hungry and a bit hungover.

Didn't eat lunch, either. Fasted until dinner, when I made a new recipe - pizza with a cream cheese & egg crust. Quite good. 3 year old loved it.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I must be doing something right.. I'm below 220 lbs. for the first time in quite a while!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Tomorrow, though, I'll probably have some BBQ before noon.
