Flavor Brigade, Oakland

Still learning etiquette here, search threads had old ones so I hope it is OK to start a new one.

I went to Flavor Brigade last week. Their space is about the same, their signage improved. I got regular ice cream, my kid chose "2nd Street" which is a parfait looking arrangement of frozen custard and italian ice, which I tasted as the portions as generous. I agreed with the family near us who had the same concoction when they said "It tastes like a cold Jolly Rancher."

I don't know much about italian ice or frozen custard, or how I feel about them combined. But their regular, Strauss milk ice cream is lovely.

Thanks for the reminder. I haven't been there in a while. Time to re-visit.

I like doing a combo trip out to that area starting with a Fruitvale Mexican Crawl and finishing with Flavor Brigade palette cleanser. Sounds like a good idea for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo weekend.

I think I've just had really bad luck with the timing of my visits here - all 3 times I've dropped by, their frozen custard machine's been down for the count, so I've yet to have any. The water (or as my Philly native friend says, "waugh-tuh") ices are nice, though, especially on a warm day trip to the Fruitvale.
