dinner ideas

Looking for a place to have dinner Tuesday night when my brother comes to town. I wanted to go to Locanda Verde, but they're full. But something along those lines. Any ideas? I'm really out of the loop. He's pretty conservative, restaurant wise. It's expense account, but still, I don't want to break the bank. Preferences would be Italian-ish or American -- not French! Thanks.

That room looks so pretty. If I don't go there tomorrow, I'll have to try it another time. Thanks.

Italian: L'Artusi, Perla, any of Michael White's places (Marea, Ai Fiori, etc.)
American: the Tavern Room at Gramercy Tavern? (no reservations taken). I also like The National, on 50th and Lex, but that might not be your preferred neighborhood.
      I'd also check out Nomad.

2nd all of EBT's recs. Just note that Perla doesn't take reservations for parties of less than four. Ciano, Scarpetta, Lincoln, and Maialino are also good options for Italian.

The National would be a good choice for a conservative diner.

I recently had a great meal at Colicchio and Sons, which I liked more than Craft, but either one would be worth considering.

Okay -- Lots to work with. One of these will surely work. Thanks for the good ideas!

We went to Scarpetta, where I'd never been before, and had a good meal. We had a very nice time. Thanks, all.
