I need to try this place again. My experience at Chela's ( LIberty and Maple) was pretty 'meh". THey did have good tamales though.

I agree, Taco King's food is tastier than Chela's & we prefer the atmosphere at Taco King, even though Chela's is more "upscale"

We thought the Central American (banana leaf) tamales were tastier than the Mexican (corn husk) tamales.

they re-opened recently so it was kind of chaotic but the tacos were tasty. it's nice to have an inexpensive non-chain eatery in the area.
they had tacos, burritos,tamales, tortas &quesadillas on the menu, perhaps they'll do more once settled in.

Al Pastor , Carne asada, Barbacoa (lamb), Carnitas, Chorizo, Lengua (tongue), Pollo - pretty standard.
served w/ cilantro & onion & a very nice green tomatillo salsa.
I'll have the lamb & tongue!

No guisados. Just tacos, tostadas, etc . . . but very tasty meats. Also good frijoles de olla. Best taqueria in Washtenaw County. Then again, competition is thin.

I tried the tripe taco @ taco king & did not like it , it was tender but had a strong offal, livery taste.
I've had tripe before & thought it was OK, it had a milder flavor, but there are different types, I'm not sure which one of the 4 cow stomachs they used.

Was it tripe or did it say tripas ? Because I thought tripas actually referred to intestines and I see that on many taqueria menus.

Actually I'm a big fan of pork intestine dishes at most Chinese places. They definitely seem to taste "cleaner" than you might expect. I recall having a tripas taco at Taqueria La Fiesta before and wasn't a fan of that prep ( they were fried , as opposed to the steamed ones I sometimes get with carnitas at Dos Hermanos)

Outside of Menudo, I can't recall having any tripe (beef or pork) at a Mexican place. I'd actually be pretty interested to try a pork tripe taco.
