in red hook: really good italian food - mercato

Mercato is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley. Try their Berkshire pork or pheasant entrees. Or anything else on the menu.

You'll need to make reservations if you're dining on the week end. Ask to sit in the back room if you want a more quieter experience. Also, they sell real olive oil by the liter--it comes from their family farm in Italy so you can be assured that it is 100% olive.

The restaurant is located on East Market Street about a 1/2 mile from the traffic light.

Mercato is the best. Madalin's Table is quite good too, and the outdoor seating there is very nice.

As everyone here seems to agree and I concur, DEFINITELY Mercato in Red Hook. Pasta, appetizers, specials ALL fantastic, but don't overlook the kale salad or the chicken liver bruschetta. Wine selection great and reasonable. Also agree that PanZur is wonderful, especially croquetas and the Hudson Valley foie gras. Have to add that I think I saw that Bubby's burritos is back, so if you are in the area check them out for a cheap, casual and delicious lunch - their cart is parked on Rte 199 in front of Hardeman's Orchards farm stand. It is closed on Sunday, though. Me Oh My Pie right in Red Hook village (Route 9) also has a very nice lunch -- their home made chicken pot pie is amazing, and their cakes, pies and chocolate chip cookies are fantastic.
